Best Fuel Mileage Setting On Edge COMP

With fuel prices getting as ridiculous as they are, whats the best setting on the COMP box for fuel mileage

i have it turned down to 1x1 right now, just wondering what everyone else uses for best fuel mileage or what setting gives you the best mileage

I get the best Mileage from 4X5 as long as you keep your foot out of it. Before my speeding ticket my average was 17. Now that I keep her around 60mph mine jumped to almost 19. :U:

With my set up I see good mileage with my smarty on 4 and my comp on 2x1. I can get really good mileage if I keep my foot out of it (smarty on stock) and comp set to 1x1 but this controls smoke and makes hard acceleration nearly impossible but not 100%.

The key here as luke said is to keep your foot out of it and you will be surprised. I can get a solid 27 imperial mpg with no programmer and my 150 sticks but you have to be really gentle. I use my comp to control smoke from the sticks and it seldom goes about 4x4 and with the smarty on 4 does it rarely go above 3x5 but this is just me. Oh did I mention I need a turbo?

w/o the wire tap i got my best on 5x5. but now i havnt found the sweet setting yet. im doing really well on 3x3. but just starting to run biodiesel doesnt help either. ill keep you posted with what i find out!

1x1 for me. With massive sticks and twins.

23MPG at 70mph. Hand calc'd.

You best MPG's come when you leave the defuel mode of the Edge Comp. So since my average boost is 3-5 PSI I would have to run a sublevel above 4 to stay out of defuel mode. Remember there is no additional timing in defuel mode... You must leave defuel mode to get the additional timing...

Sublevel 1 requires 20 PSI to leave defuel mode.
Sublevel 2 requires 15 PSI to leave defuel mode.
Sublevel 3 requires 10 PSI to leave defuel mode.

Sublevel 4 and 5 are outside the defuel mode so additional timing and fuel are available at low boost levels (0-10 PSI)

So I'm running 4x4...

I've tested this against my ScanGauge II. I can set my cruise at 55 MPH and start changing my sublevle of level 4. 1,2,3 no change in MPG or power. But 4 there is a noted jump in power and MPG climb instantly 2-3 MPG. sub level 5 is the same. But if I go backwards down to say 3x3 or 4x3 I instantly see a 2-3 MPG loss in fuel mileage...

But Main level dictates maximum fuel flow and maximum timing. So the highier the mark level the more of both you get. So 4x4 is a good mix of both and I tend to control the fuel flow with my right foot rather well (or use cruise control).

The other advise is keep your pyro BELOW 600*F and boost BELOW 5 PSI and some wonderful MPG numbers can occur.

55 MPH and a light throttle (Edge Comp 4x4)

65-70 MPH up a mild grade.

I got to do some repairs on my truck and I'll get some better pics displaying speed, RPM, and MPG number...

That's pretty slick. With the numbers you show do you have stock injectors and turbo?

CumminsCrazed 03-12-2008 01:02 PM

so the consensus is showing 3x3 or 4x4?

But I'm a 2002 Dodge Cummins SO Engine Stock tires size 265/75 R16 with 3.55:1 Ratio gears... Current temp is 32*F with no winds. Elevation is ~2,800 Ft Running a very slight downhill slope (1,000 ft fall in 15 miles), Edge Comp is ON (4x4 and injection pump wire UNPLUGGED!)

Here is my new pics of the MPG and speed difference... (HPr = Horse power rating)
Also taken notice to my rule of thumb Pyro below 600*F and Boost below 5 PSI... Notice all the good MPG number always below 600*F!!!

I say 4x4 because it gets you out of defuel mode and get the timing advancement for you... 1,2,3 sublevel don't get timing till 20,15,10 PSI of boost is exceeded... The fuel part you can control with your foot and speed as shown above...

I've gotten as high as 30-35 MPG at speeds as low as 25-35 MPH... :w2:

This kinda surprises me

Did you not install the boost elbow that came with the comp box? That boost level seems a bit low. Also, I'm sure that these guys getting better mpg's spend more time on rural roads rather than the stop and go traffic in the city. Stop and go is KILLING me !!
