fuel economy

okay so i have a 99 ram 2500 4x4 with edge juice w/ attitude, BHAF, airdog 2 150gph, s&b intake horn and tube, 4" full exhaust, built ats trans, and 4.10 gears.

it is on blocks and has 265/70r16 tires and im getting 15.5mpg avg. this seems quite low as my past cummins trucks got 20-25mpg on a bad day. my last 12v dually got 15mpg.

i baby the fuel and drive mostly highway and the tuner is on lvl 1 always. i use diesel kleen as well.

im confused as to why the fuel economy would suffer this bad :'(

Wow that is kind of low. Possible valve adjustment maybe. They should be done around 75K. 4.10 gears probably don't help the situation too much either, depending on your average speed driven..i.e. if it's well above the 1800 rpm fuel economy sweet spot. Your fuel pressure is ok too, correct? Could have a plugged filter or something. Never rule out sticky or dragging brakes either. That got me once before. On another note, jeez...I bet that truck flies. NICE.

yea 17-19psi pressure always. 5psi boost is high for me since I'm not pedal to the floor all the time. i guess its valve and head retorque time sigh

chuffysplace 09-18-2012 05:45 PM

huh. could be yes.. How many miles you have on there? Also - maybe someone else will chime in, but I've heard that you "may" get better mileage on the Edge's higher settings with a gentle foot. I've only heard that tho...can't speak from experience.

ducktape 09-19-2012 07:27 AM

yea i turned it up to 3 now and it seems to act better. its only got 147k mi on it.

I have Edge Juice w/Att and I get the best MPGs on level 5. I adjust my valves every 50k miles. I have 191K and I run 315 General Grabber AT2s for tires. My current setup I get 19 city/22 hwy hand calculated.

little larger tire will help the 4.10's as my 01 with 3.55's and 285's gets 17 with city and rural hwy driving

ducktape 09-22-2012 08:35 AM

i thought smaller tires would be better. likestock size

01quadcab 09-23-2012 09:12 PM

your gears are hurting you so it's in effect changing overall ratio. Like I said I am getting my miles with 3.55's and 285/70/17's

Hmm If you are doing everything well, there should not be the chance of performing the truck so low regarding the fuel economy.
How much time has passed since you service the truck?
Is there something wrong with the radiator??
