anyone running a close turbo while pulling?

is there anyone running an S362 or other 62mm inducer with a larger exhaust housing like the divided .91 A/R T4 on an aftermarket manifold with a ported head. im wondering if it will spool good enough to pull a decent load around on a trailer with out getting hot or having surging issues. the truck will have injectors and delivery valves in it hopefully by the time it hits the street or not long after. im trying to find a happy medium as i dont wanna have the truck run hot and i only want to buy one manifold seeing how there not cheap!

Depends on the injector setup and what stall the converter is.

pullincrazy88 07-02-2012 09:43 PM

well as of right now i have not ordered injectors or a converter. it will probably be something like 5x14 or 5x16 for injectors. 042 DV's but im really unsure what the stall speed of my converter will be.

what turbine wheel are you using?

pullincrazy88 07-03-2012 04:31 PM

it is the 68mm turbine wheel and i have a race cover housing for the 62mm compressor side.

turbo2332 07-03-2012 10:34 PM

higher than mine. im somewhere around 1400 and it is WAY to low!!!!!!!

pullincrazy88 07-04-2012 10:56 AM

do you mean the stall of your converter is around 1400?

turbo2332 07-04-2012 11:04 AM

yes

pullincrazy88 07-04-2012 11:05 PM

that does seem pretty low. ive always been told you want your converter to lock at the max torque range but this was also for a drag car not sure if its quite the same for a daily driver diesel

With a low stall converter and a 68mm turbine, a 12cm housing would work best for you.

And with a 62mm wheel, 5x12s are going to work the best, 5x14s would be the max I'd go.

i lied to ya, my converter is a 1700-1800 stall, stock stall being (via ATS) around 2300. i personally recommend something higher than mine.

i plan on running bigger injectors as i will likely be putting twins on it later and dont want to have to buy two sets. so a lower stall is better for helping to light a larger turbo or exhaust housing is what your saying. im just trying to figure out if i run a smaller housing and t3 manifold on a ported head if all im doing is bottle necking the exhaust flow where the turbo housing meets the manifold.

A higher stall will light a bigger turbo.

pullincrazy88 07-30-2012 08:48 PM

if a higher stall will light a bigger turbo how big is too big for a DD. i would have thought that putting the engine under a load faster would create more boost quicker then a higher stall. like revving an engine in park to having it moving in gear.
