5" EXHAUST

will 5 inch exhaust hurt the performance of a stock truck? i am getting ready to ditch the stock exhaust. i like the sound of the 5inch but i dont want to lose power. my truck is stock with nothing done to it. my plan is too do exhaust, turn up timing, bigger fuel plate then put a valve body and torque converter in the truck for now. i want to get a good exhaust but i dont want to lose power.

4" is plenty of flow......5 is simply the WOW factor.............it wont hurt yer performance at all, a diesel like no backpressure at all

simman22 05-31-2012 08:56 PM

I have an 03 but exhaust was the first thing i did (5" straight pipe) and other than not being able to keep my foot off the pedal it didnt really affect much performance wise.

What I've gots in my sig. Love it, no it doesn't drone on the highway, and no it doesn't affect low end tourqe, at all. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise :c:

smedley 06-01-2012 03:31 PM

Ok then 5" it is. Haha

Cordova2013-12 Valve 06-01-2012 04:40 PM

What brand and system are you going to get? I got one from ebay that came with a free 6" tip. Diamond eye, aluminized. Theres one with free shipping and one with $45 shipping. If you go that route, pay the extra $45 and get the free tip, haha. :c: :pca1:

Mikeh1725 06-01-2012 06:16 PM

$279 shipped at rollinsmokediesel.com

Cordova2013-12 Valve 06-01-2012 06:36 PM

5" turbo back aluminized straight pipe? $279?

Mikeh1725 06-01-2012 08:24 PM

I lied, $289 but if you use the discount code you get a better price.

I was going to go with diamond but he had to order it and it would be here until Wednesday so i bought the mbrp because he had it in stock.

Cordova2013-12 Valve 06-02-2012 12:30 PM

Did you buy the tailpipe hanger kit too?

smedley 06-02-2012 01:01 PM

No mine came with it. I bought it from a local guy that sells parts.

Cordova2013-12 Valve 06-02-2012 01:58 PM

Oh, okay, good deal. My hanger kit is a couple of clothes hangers... Im not sure if Diamond Eye sells a hanger kit for their kit or not, and Im really not sure if an MBRP kit would work for it or not.. Anyone know? :humm:

I ran a 4 1/2" DP (5" wouldn't clear the frame and trans line) to 5" and I'm happy with it. It is overkill but I like the slightly deeper tone.

Been thinkin about 4" w/o muffler/cat or 5" w/ muffler no cat... mbrp. I'm not a fan of the loud crackling exhaust sound. I like more of the deep rumble/growl. What do u guys think the better choice is. Not a performance question...simply a "what sounds more bad ass" question. Thanx

smedley 06-08-2012 03:07 PM

Mine is 5" no muffler and it is deep. It doesn't crackle at all and it isn't loud in the cab if the windows are up. Just go with 5" straight pipe, no muffler or anything. :c:

SJ6.0 06-08-2012 03:35 PM

The only reason I was thinking about the muffler on the 5" was so it wouldnt be too loud. i have heard tye 4" no muffler and think it sounds good. Noone around me has 5" and YouTube doesnt do any justice, i dont think. im not 18 years old, and don't care to wake the enitre nieghborhood. Just want a mean sounding exhaust. lol ... To put it in some sort of perspective, I love the deep hollow sound of the ford mustang exhaust. Dont mean to drag the issue out, just want to make sure im getting what i want for all that money.

Cordova2013-12 Valve 06-08-2012 07:09 PM

4" w/o muffler and halfway gutted cat. Getta 6" tip for it though :c:

smedley 06-10-2012 07:34 PM

i would get it without the muffler and if its too loud for you im sure you could find a muffler off of a member here that has taken there's off and buy it cheap. it would suck to pay the extra money for the muffler and it not be loud enough and buy a muffler delete pipe for another $100.
