4k gov springs

would it be ok to put 4k gov springs in my 94 12v cummins with a 0 fuel plate,4'' exhaust, bhaf and star wheel turned thanks

daveO 04-29-2012 03:12 PM

I would add at least 60# valve springs.

SCHMITTY 04-29-2012 03:38 PM

I getting ready to install mine tonight. 100 plate, 3" exhaust

trentonwest29 04-29-2012 03:42 PM

just 60# valve springs? and how much of a difference will i tell?

turbo2332 04-29-2012 03:49 PM

night and day. best mod you can do but install 60lbs springs if you use 4ks

trentonwest29 04-29-2012 07:59 PM

how reliable will it be for every day driver as far as bottom end and cam and all of that wil it hurt anything?

daveO 04-29-2012 08:37 PM

4Ks are fine for a DD. The biggest risk is floating an exhaust valve if you stick with stock valve springs.

trentonwest29 04-29-2012 09:12 PM

anyone had any problems with valve beat in? and how long does it take install these?

turbo2332 04-29-2012 09:16 PM

whats valve beat in?? 30 min for the 4ks and a hour or so with the valve springs, the back 4 are a bear.

trentonwest29 04-30-2012 04:59 PM

Do I need the titanium keepers and retainers? If so does anyone know where to get them cheap?

turbo2332 04-30-2012 06:01 PM

no you dont and they dont excist for cheap. you have no need for them

trentonwest29 04-30-2012 09:14 PM

ok thank you anyone know how much horsepower i will gain form these?

daveO 05-01-2012 09:42 AM

I don't think you'll see much of a hp gain from these, you just increase RPMs.

I dont have gov springs installed yet or even bought any :argh: but have looked into it. :humm: Has anyone had any problems with cam wear/wipeout from the difference in spring pressure? I havent heard of anyone having this problem but it seems plausible.
