Lowering kit recommendations?

I dont know if anyone else out there has dropped their dually, but I'm really considering dropping mine. Not slamming it to the ground, but just lowering it, and maybe some bags. Does any one have any recommendations?

I have been thinking about the same thing with mine and was looking into doing trailing arms like the older 70's chevys ran and airbags.

Well, I found an axle flip kit and was really considering it and juss throwing some bags on it

order some 3 inch shorter springs for the front and take the 3 inch lift block our of the rear end. wham bam your truck sits 3 inches lower.

2 wheel drive doesn't have blocks does it? I'll go look in the morning

1AMatt 05-14-2012 03:14 PM

Did ya find if you have blocks or not?? Im kinda curious now :humm:

Cordova2013-12 Valve 05-16-2012 11:57 PM

That's a negative on blocks for a 2WD

What tires are you running, and will they clear with your lowered stance? Lower aspect ratio will lower the truck as well, but open up space in the wheelwell around the tire. Obvious, but I figured I'd point it out, not sure what look your going after.

Cordova2013-12 Valve 05-17-2012 11:52 AM

It's nothing big and off-roadish. Everything will clear as long as I don't lower more than 2 inches

Could do a shackle/hangar drop out back, spring under is gonna put the axle into the frame without a C notch..... I thought about lowering mine, but I'm pulling the driveline for a 02' chev dually instead.

I cut 1 coil off each front spring and then removed the main helper spring in the rear and did some other old school leaf spring swappin' around to get it right, i am just about on the bump stops all the way around but I like it..... i used some ladder bars to help eliminate some axle wrap i created, that will be fixed soon though....

stock height with 235/85/16's

after lowering it, forgot the tire size but it was WAY shorter than the old one. compare the above front bumper to ground distance to this picture,

Attachment 38209

Attachment 38210

not too low to make it look like a "low rider" but shorter than a stock truck when side by side, a stock 4x4 is about 12 inches taller than mine. the top of my cab is eye level and I am 6ft....:c:

and that black truck on the right side of the second pic is my 94 ranger, it has a 5/7 drop soon to be c notched and bagged at all 4 corners, i am running out of this thing called time.....

Thank you VERY much for that post my friend. How exactly did you do your rear? And do you ever pull a gooseneck? Man, there's so many questions I wanna ask you because your truck is exactly where I want mine to be apperance wise forreal

Benjamin 05-17-2012 11:58 PM

No gooseneck but i have the plate. When towing a trailer it sits on the bump stops and rides like a truck equipt with thurins.... i actually took apart the leafs and put one on top of the main spring. It weakened the pack and caused the axle wrap. Ladder bars fixed that. I have a plan for a 4 link and bags in the future....

Cordova2013-12 Valve 05-18-2012 12:47 AM

So how much were the ladder bars? I might do the same thing as you if you wouldn't mind me copying your design, lol. Either that, or could I use drop shackles and achieve the same height?
