Upgrading turbo on a built up 95
I am starting to get everything together to build up my 12V a little more, and I am wanting to upgrade the turbo to get more total power out of the truck. Right now, as it sits, the truck has a HX40, ATS 3 peice manifold, 4 inch exhaust SST409, the scotty air 2, 3K GSK, 370 injectors, PDR high flow delivery valve, #10 torque plate, Peirs head with HD valve springs, 12mm studs. South bend rally clutch inside the NV4500.
The truck is a daily driver, tows very little weight not very often (less than 3K pounds, just a 18' ski boat) no pulls, may drag race it here and there, but mainly a fun driving street truck. I have thought about compounds, and havent ruled them out. If I go with compounds, I would like to keep the HX40 in the truck. But I think I want a single just for ease of the system. The truck has 286K on it and at 500K (as long as its not needed before *knocks on wood*) I plan on rebuilding the motor and filling it with go fast parts. I would like to not have to upgrade parts again because I am shallow on boost at this point, but have no problem toning down the rebuild to stick with what I am working with. What say the bombers? A cool running, high boost, high hp supported turbo. Quick spool is nice, but I know its a pay off in running a larger turbo, and I am fine with that. What other supporting mods are going to be needed with this turbo for best overall performance? Thanks! :c: |
a fuel system and maybe a turbo similar to a super B special would be up your alley. and some 4k springs.

I was looking through and saw a few of the super b turbo setups. I saw specials and killers and supers, but dont know the differences are in those turbos. Im down for it, as long as its a good fit for my truck. Looking at something like this: http://www.dieselautopower.com/produ...-fslash-21.htm BTW, Im not doing this right away, building up the funds and getting it all together before I jump in and build it all up. |
here are some turbo sizes for ya.
H1C 50 or 54/60/18 or 21 HX35/WH1C 56/58/12 52-60 lbs/min HX35/40 60/58/12 in between these two HX40 60/65/16 60-71 lbs/min HX50 63/71/19??? 67/78? Super b 57/65/14 Super B special 64/71/14 HE351 60/60/9 HE351VE 62/65/4-26? variable HE341 54/58/9 3000 59/65/ 65 lbs/min 4000 63/70/ 75 lbs/min 5000 71/74/ 95 lbs/min |

HX40 60/65/16 60-71 lbs/min Super B special 64/71/14 HE351VE 62/65/4-26? variable Other than the 3K GSK, which will be taken care of with a 4K, will everything else hold up, or would I need different injectors? I know tuning will have to be done, and I fully expect that, but I dont want to get everything installed and then its leaned out. Basically, wanting to make sure its all done right before killing an engine. AirDog 150 is on the list. |
the HE351VE is a variable geometry turbo that coes on the never dodge trucks. its not a simple bolt on!!! the HX40 is the cheapest but isnt the best turbo by far. the special will be the laggiest of your three and wil require bigger injectors to fuel it. nothing huge but def bigger.
what kind of HP are you looking for? 4-500 or 5-600? |

what kind of HP are you looking for? 4-500 or 5-600? Am I going to need to change out to a 5x14 or 5x16 injector? I dont really have a power goal, I would love 1K but know thats not going to happen on a turbo and fuel upgrade, and I have no reason for that much. I just want a more powerful truck thats reliable and fun to drive. The PO said the truck was about 600/1200, and while its powerful as is, I dont think its that much. :tttt: |
who/what is the PO??? there is absolutly no way you are anywhere close to 600hp. maybe 350-400... your injectors are 5x.012's but are the 155* spray pattern. 500-600 can be made with them. dont go anybigger than a 5x.014 if this truck is on the road there is NO NEED!

Im only asking about the injectors just to be sure that if I need to upgrade them. If the ones in the truck will work with the turbo, then I will leave them be and spend that money on something that will work with the truck. I definitely want the truck streetable, and if going bigger than 5x14s is going to take it off the road or lose streetability, then I dont want them. Its a street truck and daily first. I would like to have to not change them if I can get away with it. Turbo 2332, thanks for your responses, it is definitely helping in getting all this sorted out! |
stick with the 370's if the budget is tight. they will get you where you want to go. fill out your signiture so we can see what is dont to your truck.
