Opinion on Valair Clutches......

Ok so I just got a $700 check for whatever :tu: and Im debating what Im going to spend it on. Options are body work, rims, studs, GSK, clutch, etc........ all which will be getting done in the summer but I have some stuff to buy now. So I was thinking about going ahead and gettin a clutch which would allow me to go ahead and mess with the pump some :rocking:

So I have about $5-700 to spend on a clutch, preferably closer to $500 so I could put a couple hundred back for a rainy day. The most mods this clutch will see are the mods listed in my sig, pump work, 5x.014 injectors, 62/65 turbo, and 4k GSK, so no more than 450rwhp. Before I do any more mods (compounds, DV's, etc.) it will get a South Bend dual disk.

Truck will never see a trailer, this is just a play truck, so a strong single disk will work for now. Here's what Im looking at:

NMU70119-04 Valair Clutch Kit 1994 - 2003 Dodge NV4500 5 Speed

Its a Valair 12.25 full ceramic cluch with a 3800# pressure plate, and is supposed to hold up to 550hp and 1000tq, well short of anything I will ever throw at it. And I like that its only $500. I know a full ceramic is going to be very grabby, but like I said truck will never see a trailer. Do you think this clutch will work well for what Im going to be doing with it?

My other option is the exact same thing but in a ceramic/kevlar combo. Its a bit more at $650, and a bit less hp at 450/900, but it is supposed to be a better behaved clutch. Here it is.

NMU70119-06 Valair Single Disc Clutch

For my budget and power goals, what do you think is my best option?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Ill go ahead and make a note that the other option Im toying with instead of a clutch is 4k GSK, 60lb springs, mighty diesel head bolts, and 16-17* of timing, with maybe a little pump work.

A full ceramic is extremely grabby. Id look at a Dual Disc.

Save up and buy a good double to start with.

but do I really need to shell out for a dual when Ill only be running a max of 450hp and never hooked to a load of any type? It will be MANY years before I do any more work than this to it, and funds are limited at the moment.

and I have been thinking about the same thing about the full ceramic :humm: how about the 13" ceramic/kevlar combo? Its 500/1000 and is supposed to have really good manners and excellent for towing.

The problem with a single is they may hold the power when fully engaged but they do not stand any amount of slip. I wasted enough singles trying to just get by.

Alright thanks dude. I think for now Im just gonna buy the 4k GSK, 60lb springs, and head bolts, and then see how much I make this summer and try to get a dual disk then.

Good choice

Can't go wrong with a high quality dual disc.
