hx40 question

im gettin rid of the hx35 im lookin at a hx40 wondering if its a good upgrade when i get my truck back running.
8 blade
ind. 56.60 mm
exd. 74.71 mm
trim 54.8
turbiner wheel
4'' v-band
ind.76mm
exd 64mm
exhaust house
16 sq cm

If it is a 56.6 it is barely any bigger than the HX35's 56, and the 16cm housing will be slower to spool than the 35's 12cm housing.
an HX40 SHOULD have a 60/85 comp wheel 6 blade is loud, 7 is best and 8 is worst flowing.

where can i find a good set up like that

cumminspwr11 10-20-2010 06:27 PM

check ebay, my 40 is one on the older 40s that didnt have a silencer ring in, i found it laying around a shop, i took and put the 40 compressor on my 35 with 12cm exhaust housing it worked out great,
you could also buy the 60mm compressor and wheel form htt turbos or gillet, but they run around 300bux new

another thouhgt-sometimes people sell just the compressor off a 40 which will go right on the 35 center bearing, so if you could find a scrap compressor laying around-ebay, craigslist, etc- you could then buy a new wheel for 70bux or so and then you have 40

be careful! many of the hx40 wheels need a larger circle cut into the center section to fit properly.

this guy has a 35/40 hybrid for cheap as well as other options:
Diesel Auto Power- Good Service, Great Products, Excellent Prices!!! Willing to match/beat any legitimate price.

i cant spend 800 on a turbo rite now i wish someone would get on ebay and look at the hx40's or bigger ones thats the best one for 400hp rite now.

turbolvr-ya now that i think about it i used the 40 center housing as well on mine but i think i did one other 35 like that and it worked out, maybe i just got lucky the 1st time around

i have heard of getting the 40s "pined" what is that exactly? and would i need to do it on mine-it is a genuine holset off an older 8.3 i suppose since it doesnt not have the stuff for the silencer ring machined in

turbo is too small to need that. If you were a puller that ran a big charger near the surge line, you would pin or key the wheel on the shaft to prevent it moving, but a 40 doesnt need it.

i see what your saying, just heard a few people talk about pinning their turbos and was wondering what that was all about

Turbolvr 10-21-2010 02:09 PM

the comp wheel just slides on the shaft and the nut secures it, not an issue @ lower pressure ratios but when you push them to their limit and/or bark them hard, they can loosen and cause instant turbo failure. A simple pin through the shaft under the nut is enough to prevent it.
