Phat Shaft Turbo's

Im doing research on the future 12v build I have planned. Im really looking at Industrial Injection's Phat Shaft series turbos And was wondering if anybody has any complaints or bad experiences with them. Im mainly looking at the phatshaft 62 but cant decide to go with a 12cm or 14cm housing.:argh:

I know that Im going to have ddp 370s probably a 0 plate, 191s, HTT 3 piece manifold, and of course all the free pump mods and timing around 16*:U: and Of course all the have to have like exhuast intake and guages.

Bump, Doesnt anybody have a phat shaft?

I dont have a Phat Shaft but they are supposed to be awesome. You cant really go wrong with Industrial Injection. Im not sure what the price difference is, but check out the Silver Bullet.

Have you looked at the HTT stuff yet?

Dunno why you'd want a 14..........stick with a 12. A 14 would just make it laggy.

I've never really heard anything bad about the Phat Shaft line, nor HTT or Super B really.

Will a 12cm flow enough for the fuel I want to move? I havent looked very deap into HTT yet.

toy4xchris 11-07-2007 12:13 AM

I always figured the 14 would clean better and what not. I was thinking about a 14 not a phat shaft but a 14 on my truck.

Monster Truck 11-07-2007 12:25 AM

How laggy are we talking with a 14? Im going to have a 5spd so I dont want to be throwing fuel around just to get some boost in town.

onewhl750 11-07-2007 05:50 AM

I have the HTT stainless in a "13" cm housing. There is a little bit of lag around town but not bad enough that I am dumping fuel for nothing. My understanding is that the SS version is not really a true 13 cm, so it may not be valid feedback. If you are building it as a project and looking to make some big power I think the 14 is probably the way to go.

Dr. Evil 11-07-2007 09:08 AM

But why the 14 over the 12?

Monster Truck 11-07-2007 10:28 AM

Ive understood that a 14 will be cooler over a 12? does a aftermarket 12cm run cooler right out of the box then the stock 12cm? Im not going to huge HP number just around 400 youve seen my fuel mods above I just dont want to get hot when towing or hualing ass but I dont want to be a dog either.

ndurbin 11-07-2007 05:35 PM

It isn't worth the marginal EGT drop. I've never seen anyone get more than a 50-100* drop going to a 14 or 16 cm housing and afterwards they complain about the lag.

Go with the 12, you'll be fine.

Monster Truck 11-07-2007 06:49 PM

Ok Ive got it now, I was looking at the exhuast side of it more then the intake and how much more dense air it will be putting into the engine in exchange leaning out the mixture and cooling egts, am I in the ball park on that? My question now is to go with a HTB2 62/12 or a Phat Shaft 62/12?

onewhl750 11-08-2007 06:22 AM

I recommend the HTT. Prices are all about the same, but you can send the HTT back to them and they will upgrade or downgrade the turbo for a lot cheaper then buying a whole new turbo if you want to go bigger or you decide you want a little less. Just my 2 cents

Diesel Nut 11-08-2007 09:20 AM

Industrial will do the same for you. As for turbo, I think the Phat Shaft should work good. If you plan to get over about 525-550 hp, I would look at something more like the Silver 62 and get the 14cm there. Plenty of airflow to keep it cool and still spool real well with that big ass turbine.

No matter what, its gonna smoke. You are going to have a pretty good amount of fuel there, and depending on how you tweak the pump, its gonna let you have it right away. What year are you looking to do this with?

Monster Truck 11-08-2007 12:48 PM

I havent decided if Im getting a 215 truck or not becuase Im just looking for the right truck. It wont be a 94 though. Im not looking to go for 500 hp but 450 max. I still want to be able to commute with the truck everyday and work it here and there and also have some pucker effect on the commute if you know what I mean.

Diesel Nut 11-08-2007 03:17 PM

Ok, then a Phat shaft or a BD super B would be perfect for ya!

A-CFarmer 01-09-2008 06:13 PM

I had a 62/14 on my 95 before I sold it and they dont spool as bad as people make them out to. It was a little laggy but I had 370's and lc d/v's and it seemed to do alright for me!

Diesel Nut 01-09-2008 06:29 PM

Yeah, a 14 won't spool BAD, just depends on how you have the pump set up. With 370's and 191's, your not going to have any trouble getting fuel to spool it with.

Monster Truck 01-09-2008 10:24 PM

Well I got a truck, came with a super B on it and I already need more turbo. Im Thinking about putting a s400 under the super B rather than buying another single.
