LCDVs VS. 191s

What is the difference between laser cut delivery valves and 191 delivery valves?

ndurbin 10-16-2007 07:18 PM

Laser Cut are what they imply, cut by a laser. 191s are stock DVs off the shelf parts.

2001shrtbedcummins 10-16-2007 07:53 PM

a butt load more fuel with lasers

9712valve 10-28-2007 01:00 PM

just buy the delivers valves from piers the new custom one that don't smoke on the bottom end and smoke a lot on the top end. the flow like laser cuts, and don't by 370's just go straight for the some 435's so you don't have to buy injectors twice.

Monster Truck 10-28-2007 07:23 PM

Im not going to be ready for that much fuel with 435s though.

onewhl750 10-28-2007 09:04 PM

If you upgrade injectors, spend the extra money and get some good injectors from DDP or similar. 370's are cheaper, but they are designed for the marine engine and the spray pattern is different. Just my two cents.

Monster Truck 10-28-2007 10:10 PM

Yes I was planning on going with the good 370s and not the marines, Id like to get 435s but I dont think I need near that much fuel.

9712valve 10-28-2007 10:59 PM

you might not want it now but later you will probably wish you had it. 435's are only 90 more. im buying new era 435's when i upgrade and im studding the head, buying a htt 62 or 64 charger ,piers custom laser cut delivery valves. so im going big i think i should throw down over 1000rwtq with all that fuel. and i should be able to run mid-high 12's in the 1/4 with a tranny. im doing what my friend is doing he just went from stock injectors in his 01 with an edge comp drag box, intake, exhaust, and stock turbo and injectors to mach 6's. maybe its just me but im a go big or go home kinda guy.

Monster Truck 10-29-2007 11:20 AM

I just dont want to put 435s on there and have high egts especially when towing, Im not going to be puting air in for awhile. Maybe I could have big sticks and just turn back the pump? How is mileage with that big of a stick?

DBogo 10-29-2007 12:00 PM

well then get the 435's and back the fuelplate up a little then things shouldnt get too wild but the extra power will be available when you slide that plate back forward

Monster Truck 10-29-2007 05:00 PM

Does mileage go in the tank with a injector of that size? I mean ya its going to be bad when your in it but are they eficient when cruising?

9712valve 10-30-2007 03:55 PM

im pretty sure you gain 1-2mpg, and if you bump the timing up to 15 or 16.5 it will help your mileage. what kinda mpg's you get depends on how your drive it really. and do a valet switch there 90 from piers for a 12v cuts off fuel which cuts off boost i've heard they cut your power in more than half, so it seems pretty for controling smoke, egt's and boost when ur towing

ndurbin 10-30-2007 06:10 PM

Fuel MPGs all depends on how heavy/light your right foot is. My mileage jumped about 2.5 mpg's after resetting the timing, #10 plate, and 370s, but my timing was severely retarded (like 8-9* range) when I got the truck.

Monster Truck 10-30-2007 06:26 PM

What exactly is the Valet Switch?

9712valve 11-01-2007 01:08 AM

its a switch that cuts your power down by alot by reducing fuel which controls how much boost you get and it all mechanical, go on cummins forum and search valet switch or on dtr you should get a better explanation than i can give you.

Dr. Evil 11-01-2007 01:43 AM

Theres NO need to go to Cummins Forum.

A valet switch simply prevents air going from the head to the Aernoid Fuel Control (AFC). It essentailly eliminates turbo boost.

The commercial kits usually have a solenoid but you can make one for cheap.

Monster Truck 11-01-2007 11:22 AM

I go over to cummins forum for things that I get no help here for like my turbo thread.

Thanks for the help on this topic. So the Valet switch is basically just switch to eliminate the afc on demand so you can have full control in your foot?

9712valve 11-06-2007 02:26 PM

no it cuts fuel and boost so you have way less power. if it just cut boost no one would buy one its cuts fuel which cuts boost so u get awesome mpg's and you have much less smoke. thats why when i buy my piers custom delivery valves im ordering a valet switch at the same time so i can control the heat without buying a turbo right a way.

ndurbin 11-06-2007 09:52 PM

A valet switch is a waste of money. Just control it w/ your right foot.

And like Dr. Evil said it cuts air to the AFC which in turn controls how much fuel is dumped in. Can't work the other way as thats not how a P7100 operates. If you wanted to cut fuel you'd have to put in a stock fuel plate and shove it all the way back.

Willy91 12-03-2007 09:00 PM

I agree with the other here and say don't be afraid of big injectors on low air. Can it get hot quick, well yes. But the egt's are controllable. Shoot my injectors are .002 bigger than 435's with a few more tricks and I can controll, egt's easily. When I tow the gooseneck I leave it out of OD and egt's ill stay right around 8-900 degrees, on a hill they may hit 1100.

rshort 12-06-2007 03:08 AM

Don't bother with the DV's plenty of high HP #'s have been made with stock DV's. But really, you should take the others advice and go with a little better injector than the 370's. And if you have time mess around with the pump; moving the fuel plate, AFC housing, turning the star wheel, adjusting rack travel, these are all things you can do for free, it just takes a lot of time to find that sweet spot. Or if you have the mechanical knowledge and the $, take the pump off and send it to a shop to have them balance it and turn up the fuel that way. Mileage is always going to be controlled with your foot up to a certain point anyways.

Ive got a setup Im pretty happy with right now, Im running without a plate and with the afc set at about 8psi and 3/4s of the way forward.
