HX40 turbo?
so i was thinking about buying a HX40. does anyone one know if there good or how much psi they get. i know stock ones get 35psi
i say 40psi. depends what you buy, a regular hx40 i believe has the 57mm wheel.
i have a super 40 that has a 60mm wheel. it might be better to get a hybrid or convert yours. depends what other mods you may want to do |
the one im going to get is a 60mm. and i see you have sdx injectors where did you get yours at?
sdx injectors come from sdx theyre a sponsor on here. i had an hx40 before my phatshaft. i would have to say spend the extra couple hundred and get a little bitter turbo so you dont have to upgrade twice. i hated my hx40 only had it for 3 or 4 months before finally gettin a 62/65/14 best investment i ever made
i wanted an hx40 for a while but heard too many horror stories about them. they are a weaker turbo. so i decided to save for somethin higher quality.
if youre going to get a 40 get a super 40. also need to remember that you cant bark it a lot or you are going to snap a shaft.
like previously stated, spend more now to get a better charger and not have to spend even more. it really depends on what exactly you want to do with the truck. Garrett |
You get buy a new wheel and front cover for your HX35 to make it a 60mm. I would do that before buying an HX40. The shaft will be the weak link and like mentioned before it will break if you bark it too much.
get a phat shaft!:rocking:
i had one that barked at 40 psi a couple times held up but dusted it lasted 3 months of abuse.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- im not sure you will like the spool up tho with as little fuel as you have |
i dont like em trust me been threw alota turbos the past few months jus save ur money and get a good one
mod your hx 35 and go from there

I'm just here to ask a question about my son's truck, mines a '99, he has a '94 and put an hx35 on it(among many other things). I think you'll like it much better and it'll last a lot longer. As said above, you can always give her a bigger set of teeth if you want, or save up for the phat shaft price tag. By the way, watch your boost level unless you've already replaced your headbolts with studs.

Oh yeah, I think I know his problem, but I'd like more opinions. After he put 100+ hp injectors in it he started having a problem where it will run fine at low rpms but starves for fuel as the rpms climb, unless you really romp on it then it'll run it's ass off. I'm thinkin the lift pump, he never changed it. His main pump on the lower engine went bad and he put a sweet elec. pump on that I could water the cattle with, so he's got ample fuel pressure there. Again it's a '94 12v 5.9 Dodge Cummins 3500 Dually. Can you bypass the lift pump? It seems to me someone told him he could, if I'm thinking right.
Thanks for any help! |
hx35 is stock. right? but ether way i dont seee the hx35 buildin enough boost to blow ur head! You will blow the turbo before the head goes. As for the fuel starvin have the pump timed. That should help. mine helped alot wen i first started buildin. as for phat shaft yukky yukky yukky. I hate phat shaft. hx40w2= 64 or a 66 mm u can get them on dieselsite.com for $340 with next day delivery.
i could get 45psi out of my stock hx35, isnt the stock head at its limit at 40psi??? and on the 94 it could have had a h1c and he upgraded to a hx35-chokenonmismoke
dave59- get your son to advance his timing since he is running the bigger injectors it will help out alot with top end fueling and make it run alot better, also he could put in a set of 3k gsk (if he doesnt already have them) and it fuel really good all the way to 3000rpm has for the hx 40, i have one on my truck but i found it laying around the shop and put it together with the 14cm exhaust housing for 100bux, it was a great upgrade over my stock turbo but if i was going to spend alot of money on it, i would just save up and go with a really good one |
man im not sure but i have seen one of mi 66s hit 54 lbs and hold steady at it for at least 5 secs. then i had a 60lb boost gauge and i would bury it and the truck would still be gainin spped and u could feel it boostin up more. tht was before i ever got mi head dun. stupid yuh but in :scare2:the past. now with the head dun i aint peggged it with the twins but ive seen it hit 55 on a 100 lb gauge :jump:
if you want an hx 40 spend the money on a hx35/40 hybrid boost of a hx40 spooling of a hx35 i ran one for a year and loved it it kept everything cool wille toing and had safitient power, then i upgraded to a super phat shaft 62/71/14 and no compairison

You can block of the stock lift pump, if you buy a block off plate for a 350 chevy it will bolt right up
i know that someone makes a block of plate for the pump, idk if our sponsors have one but puredieselperformace sells them
wat does blockin the pump off do more power?
it removes the afc, and covers it with a plate.
how do i do that or where can i have that done how much is i and is it safe
the plate i was taking about blocks off the factory lift pump so you can put a electric one on, i think 94 12valve is taking about removeing the afc housing? which would be the same as gutting it??? and make tons of smoke in the low end
removing it like takin the whole housin off and somebody tell me how to gut an afc
yes, take the housing off and remove everyting in side it
