Symptoms of bad injectors?
So I've been doing some thinking, and dan gave me an idea. What are symptoms of bad injectors? I'm curious to know if my 268k mile cummins has bad injectors but want to know some common symptoms

white smoke.
you can have them pop tested pretty cheap and c if there alright |
How much for pop testing? I was told to do this.
What else besides white smoke? Poor mileage? Runs different? Cant bad injectors cause different things to come out of the oil overflow tube? Stuff like that.. |
ya they can dribble diesel and it can get in you oil. if they dont pop right your fuel mileage will suffer. if there not firing right then they will run rougher.
I dont know what it costs to pop test them but im sure that its not much. |
I think I may have found out why I get barely 16mpg highway going 71mph. I may just order bigger stick and call it even. Any more input?
ya dont settle on marine injectors because there cheap. the fuel mileage will suffer because the fuel pattern does not spray in the fuel bowl of the piston. there pretty smoky too.
Ya I was thinking some SDX stage II injectors would fit the bill nicely.
right on
You think 258k miles on stock injectors is pushing it or is that normal?
that's usually pushing it. i pop tested mine on with the equipment at the college and they tested low and dribbled. i wouldn't recommend idling for extended periods of time til you get different injectors in. if you sent them to me i'd pop test them and send them back to you for free:tu:
Who thats an awesome deal! I appreciate it man!
Why would you not recomend idling it for an extended period of time? What sort of symptoms was the shop equipment exerting with bad injectors? |
when I first put my 5x.016's in my truck it always had a haze of smoke out of the stack and ideled very rough. Sent them to chris @ SDX had them repoped ( 2 injectors where set at 230 bar insted of the 280 they were suposed to). Now the truck does not haze and idels very smooth.
So how much smoke do they spew at different degrees of throttle?
i would have them pop tested first before you buy new ones. i know around here its like 30 bucks to have it done, but hey if zack_west would do them for free thats even a better deal :tu:
hell ya you cant beat free:tu::tu:
ya we have injector testing equipment at our college when i tested mine they were popped at 220 bar i think supposed to be 260 bar. and i was told idling for long periods of time would burn a hole in the piston if prolonged. or thats what one of the service techs at western equipment said(i was out on service call with him). but ya if you want to send them to garden city i'll do them for ya.:tu:
Well a rod bearing went or a valve dropped, so I"m not too worried about it right now ;)
Buy my truck man! |
haha send me pics of it and i might. haha it can be my parts pickup
Just sent them. This thing was running awesome. I'll even include you the 1,075lbs of sand bags if you want.
are you selling the truck as a whole or will you part it out? If your gonna part it out send me a price on the long block
Nope I dont have the time or will to part it out. Sorry man. Just buy the whole thing. Already had a guy come at 8am to look at it, a guy driving from rochester to look at it, a guy in new hampshire coming to look at it, and another few guys in the makes of making somethign happen. It's a very clean truck. You'll love it!
I'm sure I would but I really don't need another truck.
EVERYbody needs another truck! Hell I'm looking my damn self for another truck. It's a great truck; the truck is from texas and very very clean. Not a square of rust on it.

oh snap; you cant beat a cr!! Well, unless you have MY cummins...
you should of left it in texas. then ida bought it:tttt:
lol ya I know. I'm not happy, believe me. I'm almost contemplating rebuilding it just because I've put so much money into it and I really do like it.
you should it's cheaper to rebuild and keep it then sell it and lose money. and then it'd last alot longer
I agree with that, but no so much the wife. She isn't happy about that kinda change being dropped into my "hobby" lol
girls are so misunderstanding of our intentions lol.
Oh I completely agree! But dude if I spend that much to rebuild my truck I am literally and I mean literally NEVER selling it. But thats a lot of money to drop into a truck man. It's a tough call. Sell my truck broke and lose out, or fix it and sell it for triple what its worth now (or just keep it forever )
If you put money in it to fix it, keep it. If you want to walk away from it, do it now or set it on fire to get the insurance money. :c:
lol I've thought about insurance ;)
I'm already trying to sell it but it's almost worth it to fix it :\ |
