It's very cheap to rebuild a holset. Not too hard either. As long as the wheels and shaft is good, you should be ok.

What's the oil "issue"?

Ya my shaft is in 2. Not cool. My "oil issue" is there WAS no oil hehe. But seriously. On my drive to the diesel shop to fix the truck I blew all the oil out the front cover and out of nowhere, going about 70mph my turbo kicked in, rocketed me to 80 in like .5 seconds, then the turbo blew. Weird situation. I should have known to put more oil in before driving on the highway. So i'm replacing the turbo and what he believes to be a timing issue.

first off a 472 isnt even close to your hx35 and if you go with an hx40 your going to need a new downpipe as well. jsut stick with an hx35 for now

I know I was being a smartass. If I get a 40 though I'll see if my diesel shop can hook up a 4" dp before next friday.

What front cover did all the oil blow out of? Hopefully it was the turbo front cover you're talking about and you didn't hurt anything else by running it dry.

The previous owner, once upon a time, must have had a bolt or kdp fall out. It cracked the front cover. Prev owner tried putting gasket maker on it, gasket maker deteriorated. My front cover was spraying oil at a pretty good rate. It just happen to run dry on my way to the diesel shop (I was being stupid. Usually I keep diesel oil at all times in my bed)
