What is needed to get an hx40 bolt up?

It has a t3 flange, so I'm assuming it's pretty much "pull old turbo, bolt in new turbo" correct?

Damn I just noticed that it's for '99 and later trucks. So it wont fit my 97 will it:argh:

bolth are cheap chineese knock offs

85_305 04-04-2010 06:48 PM

Ya I know but the first link I have seen in a few other cummins forums and the people have said they have drove 80k miles on them, towing and drag racing them, and there is zero shaft play. And since thye are cheap and I need a new turbo installed by THIS WEEKEND I might just have to bite the bullet for now. I'm just wondering if any of those two will bolt right up?

BIG NIG 04-04-2010 06:51 PM

if you have a stock hx/hy35.........no it will not bolt tight up, you have to change downpipes also

85_305 04-04-2010 06:53 PM

Fuuuudge. But it says t3 flanges?? And I read that hx35 are t3 flanged turbos???

I care less about downpipes right now, I just need to be able to rock and roll for this next weekend. Is there an adaptor to buy so it will fit up?

captain_stabbin 04-04-2010 07:33 PM

not sure bout adaptor

if they both have t3 flanges it should bolt up but the down pipes are diff so u would have to get a different down pipe, the only other problem you might have is if the oil lines are different but any hyd shop should beable to make lines work

85_305 04-04-2010 07:43 PM

Are the flanges diff on 12v and 24v trucks? The site says they are t3 flanges and I've read that the hx35 is t3, so I don't see why it won't fit up? What would I have to do if the oil line don't work? Can I run w-th out the dp for a week or so till I can buy one?

wes-cummins 04-04-2010 07:52 PM

to my knowlage they are the same from 12- 24 trucks, if it has a t3 flange it shuld bolt up to your manifold, some turbos might have diff fittings but if it is a holeset turbo they should be the same,
i wouldnt run without a down pipe its guna be loud, you will get soot all over your engine compartment and its guna get very hot inside your engine compartment and posibly start somthing on fire:scare2: if worse comes to worst i would try to rig up some type of down pipe, but down pipes should only be like 150 tops

Well my wife is already about to skin my balls so another dp is out for a while. But its not an actual holset turbo. Check out my other posts with links to the turbos I'm looking at maybe u can tell what kind of oil fitting it takes?
