what does the heat in the exhaust side of the turbo have to do with the temp of the intake side?

Yes, the intercooler cools the intake charge.. hence the name inter+cooler.

take a cranked up cummins when it is 95 out and see how much it smokes and then drive it when it is 20* below 0, it wont smoke half as much bc it is getting more 02

And where exactly do you live? Because diesels smoke like chimneys here in NY in the cold (20*, 0*, -20* daily), whereas when its warm they often times dont even puff an ounce of smoke.

But the argument you are trying to make is static air temperature of 20*, which YES the truck WILL perform better due to better air quality with a static temperature of 20*f, but when talking about 80-90* static temperature, a cai that gets MAYBE 2-5* of cooler air (talking 75-85* air still) isn't going to do much of anything.

NadirPoint: The amount of oxygen is relative to the volume - The BHAF flows more air - so even if the air isn't the 10 to 15 degrees cooler.. The volume still makes up for the lack of flow of the other filter. (Maybe you forgot that physics master?) So, like I stated before, 10 more HP just from a heat shield? No. And besides, I never said that it WOULDN'T make more HP - just not the amount you stated.

Dont' worry, I won't be trying to say anything to you anymore.

Use the following equation:

Density of a gas = (pressure x molar mass) / (R x temperature)

R = 0.0821 L*atm/mol*K.

STP stands for standard temperature and pressure. Standard temperature is 273 K. Standard pressure is 1 atm.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

back to the topic just try it out by a filter for 40 bucks try it out you will either like it or you wont if you like it biuld the heat sheild by the outerwares filter cover and bobs your uncle if you dont put the old setup back on. simply as that.

New guy here, but perhaps this is a viable suggestion...

Someone stick a probe in the intake horn and measure air temps. Run 3-4 different filter setups, on the rack and on the street. See what happens and table the evidence. That should shut everyone up on this matter that seems to start a war on every diesel site where a thread comes up on the subject.

I'm just as interested as everyone else because, yes, I understand that cold air has power advantages, and yes, I understand that the turbo heats the air, and yes, I understand that the intercooler cools that air charge before it hits the intake horn -- but what are the correlations between air filter and intake charge temps? Is there one? Let's settle it!

Would we be better served by adding an electric pusher fan to the intercooler, pushing cold air from the front of the truck? What actually works?
