fans
need to know what type of elctric fans to use on a 12v cummins in my fummins eliminating the manual how much flow is needed and what fans to use that aint 600 bucks
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- ok i got an idea what to use as a fan my question is, is a fan used as a pusher fan and a fan used as a pulling fan bad? would it be pointless or having a 3800CFM as a ppusher and a 3800CFM puller gunna do me any good? |
I don't think having one of each opposing each other is going to do you any good.
|
i don't think putting one on each side will help you.
flexalites aren't too expensive. I run two of them and have no problems. |
do like i did. ford taurus fan is 30 bucks at the local junk yard. cheapest way to do it
|
tltruckparts i am no doubt doing what you did but i think im gunna run duals and yes flexalites are to damn expensive
|
just find a couple of cheap fans and self tapper them to the core support
|
Did you come to a conclusion on this matter? I am considering getting an electric fan setup as well and am curious.
|
taurus fans are the way to go guys. they are pretty slim and you wont find another oem quality fan for 35-50 bucks like the taurus electric fans are. these things dont even really need fans to begin with. my fan NEVER runs, and i get to a highest of about 195 sitting in traffic. if i kick my fan on, it drops to 180 literally in like 20 seconds. ive towed about 12000 pounds behind it in 75* california weather a couple days ago and my fan didnt once turn on. so 1 fan is MORE than overkill. with 1 of these fans youll be set. no need for two, at all.

Ok so fans out of what year taurus? They are prolly gonna have to be set to a switch aren't they
|
Hello I have 2 14 inch pullers on a custom shrod made by chiseledperformance.net. Mine is a 96 cummins never gotten hot

|

https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-r...-write-up.html its on my chevy with a 1st gen cummins. but basic install is the same |
Damnnn 1-3mpg difference?? I can almost believe it though, that big fan must take a lot to spin.
Thanks for the write up! Is this fan setup a manual setup though? Or can it still somehow be tied in to automatically kick on? |
Ebay 2 14 inch fans with relay temp sensor for $78.00, didnt see no change in MPG. Does feal a little better on highway. If you want your A/C to cool well in idle get a shrud. Freind of mine tried with out shrud and his A/c didnt cool well in idle, called chiseled got a shrud works grate

i paid 35 dollars for my taurus fan, and my taurus fan blows DOUBLE the cfm over the 2 14" fans on ebay. and its an OEM part which means the quality is most likely better than an aftermarket product. and it also has a built in shroud no need to get one. so for half the money, i got double the fan, including a shroud. that isnt ebay quality. i mean im sure it works just fine and to each their own, but if i had to do it again id do it the exact same way. |
Oh ok thanks for the input man I'll check up on that article. I really appreciate it and will be looking into doing this

Fan Control
These controllers work VERY well, especially the standing wave models, that control a fan by cycling an on/off pulse instead of cutting voltage (which burns up motors). Depending on how long each on/off cycle lasts, the fan can run at almost any speed without getting hot, spiking voltage, etc. I've seen these controllers used on a lot of off-road trucks with great success. |
the way im going to make mine work, is find a place to tap in another temp sensor/switch. im going to find a switch that turns itself on at 195 and turns it back off when it backs down to 180 or 185. that way when it feels the coolant hit that temp, the turns the fan on. im not too happy with the controller. i just use the manual switch if need be, but i dont ever even need it
|
ok thanks for the info guys i really appreciate it!
|
ya im running dueal tuaras fans on high. i ran a power wire from my ignition to my temp switch that turns on at 193-205 and shuts down at 140 into a starter selinod as my activation point then ran the fan like a starter so when it reaches my temp the starter switch enguages and the fan tunrs on. i did 1 fan that way and the secound fan on a toggle just for towing
|
the problem with your switch shutting off that high, is your fan could kick on at 193 and you only want it to cool 10 degrees, but the fan wont turn itself off until it hits 140 degress. youll never get it to run at the correct temperature. and while driving if you have decent airflow your s wont even come one they stay cool themselves, and if it was hot before and your fans are staying on, thats bad on your electrical system and puts more drain on the fans
