ATS Billet Flexplate can Fail

The ATS Billet Flexplate is not unbreakable, I just tore the center out clean no other damage. I thought these were bulletproof, 10,000 miles and around 1 year of use. It was pushing 700hp and over 1500 pounds of torque. I am glad the transmission held up both billet input and output shafts. I replaced with a BD billet Flexplate SFI 29.3 from Goerend transmission. I hope this one lasts a little longer since it is able to flex, unlike the solid ATS Flexplate. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Guess this proves nothing is "unbreakable", What were you doing when it broke?

Just driving to work, but it has been dynoed at 700hp 1500+ pounds torque, 114mph 11 second 1/4 mile and it is a daily driver, who knows shit happens, nothing is unbreakable I guess..........just FYI for those building up HP, ATS solid billet does not flex

:hi: thats a powerful daily driver you got. :c:

Thats one reason we only recommend laminated flexplates and not billet is because its able to flex. Something has to have a little bit of play in it or things such as this will happen. Hope everything gets worked out and doesnt happen again.

i have been running a sun coast converters flex plate for a year now and havent had a problem i even broke the input shaft with not hurting that flex plate it hasnt given me any problems

Thats one heck of a clean break. ALmost like it was either machined too thin in that area or maybe it was a 2 piece and welded together. We use the BD units in all of our transmissions.

Hightech_Redneck 02-10-2010 11:28 AM

how and when did you break it? i just got one of these and im hoping to be making 8 something here in the next few months..... im just curious cause if it didnt take much to break i will send it back and get something else
