What size turbo

I have a 97 2500 and want to up grade the turbo but dont know what size turbo or what kind i am going to put 80 horse injectors. I pull trailers alot so i need low EGT but still street fast. And i have been reading post and cant figuer out what the numbers mean on turbo size so came someone break it down for me please. THANK YOU

for example a 66/71/14 turbo breaks down like this... The first number is the inducer size in millimeters, the second is the exducer (also in mm), and the third number is the exhaust housing size in centimeters.

For towing I'd think something like a 62/71/13 would work out pretty nicely

62/65/12 for towing

So if there is a big inducer and a small exduer it will have alot of turbo lag. And if the turbo housing on the exducer side is small it will make a smaller chamber so it will help it spool and spin faster. Is that somewhat correct. Please tell me if i am wrong because i want to figure this turbo thing out.

Small exhaust wheel tight exhaust housing quick spool. Top end power will suffer and drive pressure will go up.
Bigger exhaust wheel bigger housing spool slows. More top end power drive pressure goes down.

I agree with Tater.....62/65 maybe a 14cm exhaust housing with the injectors.

Drive pressure what is that the boost it makes at a steady RPM in the top end?

12valvetater 01-12-2010 03:51 PM

Drive pressure- exhaust pressure pre turbo.

What brand of turbo or turbos would you recomend. And how much boost do you think it might make and how much will my stock head gasket hold without studs or o rings. THANKS:humm:
