93 cummins turbo swap with a 96 cummins
I have a 96 Cummins and I know that the turbo housing is very restrictive and I know that the 93 Cummins that I have has a larger turbo housing from the factory. But the 93 is non-wastegated and my 96 is. Although I do have an aggressive camplate and injectors, what would it hurt to put the larger (93 model) turbo on my 96?

Yes. What would be ideal is to take the turbo off your 96, which is an HX35, and install it on your 93. Now, your 93 will have much better spool up and less smoke and will be more fun to drive. If you need a bigger charger on the 96 the only real option is to get a bigger unit. The H1C thats on the 93 right now has a larger, nonwastegated exhaust housing, but the compressor flows much less air than the HX35 you currently have.
What cam plate and injectors do you have? How is your pump tuned? Timing set where? |
The cam plate was originally a #10 but I installed a #100. It just felt like the truck performed better all together. The injectors are 370s. and the pump is still stock timing. havent had a chance to take it off and tune it up properly.

No need to take it off. Just need to have it set to about 19-20*. That will knock off alot of your EGTs. Also, if you are making too much smoke you can tighten up on the AFC Starwheel. Do some searching in the 12V area for pump tuning threads and you can learn alot. Next, start saving for a larger turbo, like a BD Super B single or Phat Shaft 62.
