homade 3k washer 12 valve
I have heard that you can put a washer on the governer spring to get 3k. Does anyone know about this? If so can give me good details and maybe pics? Also will it hurt anything?
|
yes it can be done, and I don't recommend it. reason being is that i have done it before and it worked flawlessly, and the last time i did it i didn't get the washer seated correctly and it cost me a $1300 p-pump.
if it were me i'd spend the $95-$100 to get the springs to do it right than skimp and then have to buy another injection pump...... |
thanks

I've only done research and haven't tried it yet, but can't the stock springs be tightened down a few notches without hanging?
|
As Benjamin said spend the $90 and get the kit that way youll get the springs for the 4k kit also. $90 is alot better than $1300. Plus you might as well put the 4k kit in as your in search for a larger turbo and the 4k kit fuels harder than the 3k which will help in spool up time also. :tu:
|
then he would need valve springs also ?
|
yes get the 60# valve spring too whilst yer at it
|
no need for them unless you are going to a 4K kit....stock springs are good to 3200 RPM or so....even then a 4K kit in an auto will not get above 3200 unless you are holding it in gear.

^^^^^^ What he said! :c:

I am not sure why on a street truck anyone worries about the 60 lb valve springs as 99% of the time there is no place we can wind the trucks out hard enough to utilize them anyway.
Throw in the added fact that most ALL 12v trucks HP/Tq numbers drop like a stone off a cliff above 3g's anyway there is not much reason to live up there on the highway. Now,if your pulling/drag racing then there may be a chance you need them. |
