banks brake

school me on the banks brake, i have a chance to get a used one, whats a good deal on them and how do they work, are they a quality product? also can you use a aftermarket downpipe with them or do you need the banks one?

What a Banks Brake?...

Do you mean an exhaust brake? If so, its basically a butterfly valve that installs in your exhaust elbow and it open or closes according to the feul demand. Especially useful for towing big trailers, running in the mountains, and making your service brakes last a long time.

There lots of manufacturers...Jacobs, Banks, US Gear, Pak Brake are just a few. Pak Brake makes some really good ones. if I were to do it again, I would go with Pak or US Gear instead of the Jacobs.

Also, there are remote brakes that install in 4 and 5" exhaust so that you dont have the 3" exhaust bottleneck that I have. The inline brakes tend to flow more exhaust and keep you cooler if you have a lot of mods.

someone has this used and its a banks, exhaust brake

Dr. Evil 07-18-2007 07:31 PM

Oh. OK I missed that part...being thats its a Banks unit - I would GUESS that the butterfly is in the elbow like a Jacobs (but tht is only a guess).

How much is it? If its half way cheap...get it. My only suggestion, is to make sure you dont pay extra for the BANKS names stamped on it.

well he wants $600 for the HX35 and it he said make an offer on just the brake im not sure what to offer

Diesel Nut 07-18-2007 09:52 PM

Get both and sell the HX35. I know at least 3 people looking for an HX35 in decent condition.

Dr. Evil 07-18-2007 09:56 PM

Thats what I was thinking...

well if i just buy the banks brake how much would those three people spend on a hx35, i dont really have the cash to front $600 right now

I had one on my truck back when i had the stock hx35 on it. It worked good and came in handy a LOT!
Mine was setup with the butterfly valve in the elbow coming from the exhaust. My truck came with the banks exhaust so i dont know exactly what the deal was with the downpipe because mine had the banks 4" downpipe on it that mated up to the exhaust brake. I dont know if the stock downpipe will meet up with it without having the banks downpipe made for the brake. Not sure on that one. Call banks and find out i guess.
