5k rpm?
Had a guy tell me his pulling truck goes up to 5k just wondering how the hell?
5k GSK
and thats just the street classes, the big guys are up over 6k easy...lots and lots of money is involved to get a diesel engine to spin 6k and hold together...i could get one to spin that fast but to make it down the track 300 ft multiple times is a different story
no doubt... balancing the engine is the easy part... getting the psitons to handle the abuse is another... for a piston to stop, accelerate, stop, and accelerate at such a fast rate its likely the piston will accelerate and keep going while the rod is the only thing left traveling downward.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- and for that class they might as well just put solid chunks of steel in the place of the spring... or is that what they do to start with? |
you can turn 5k on stock pistons and rods, the max rmp of my 12 valve for now is only 4300 rpm and I go down the track arround 3700 - 3800. will soon be hitting 5k on the line and 4300-4500 is what I wanna turn goin down the track. My bottom end has 14mm studs and hd rod bolts, some say you don't need them but I think its better safe than sorry.

John P. was telling me most guys switch to a 24V rod when going over 5k

hmm thats interesting. the only thing i forgot when i pupt my engine back together was the 14mm main studs and hd rod bolts kinda wish i would remebered a gridle also. dang. can i add these without pulling the engine?
with your 97 block you will have to drill and tap 14 mm holes for the studs. and your better off pulling the motor its not that big of a job and its a whole lot easyer to get everything in there
Yea, failures seem hit/miss but one things for sure, Dan S. has proven that the 24v Rods are stronger lol
