Which lift pump to buy?
My lift pump has been ticking for awhile now and i don't like it.:bat:
I'm starting to slowly bomb my truck as the wallet permits. I want to buy a new one to Increase reliability :w2: of course. Any suggestions? |
AirDog FTW !!
|
Air dogs are about $500 bucks huh..
|
Yeah and will save you Thousands , ive had multiple different fuel pumps on my truck sometimes 2 at a time and the Aig Dog by its self is by far my favorite
|
What is the Ftw? Does it replace the original in the same spot? or have more fuel filters or something? I'll look it up, sorry.
Thanks |

If youre driving a 12V you dont need a lift pump. The OEM pump and lines are good for 600 hp. I dont see any mods in your signature - spend your money on important stuff.
|
Yeah a locker would be nice.. But i can't stand that ticking.. I just don't want to go thru the trouble changing the thing if its gonna break again, or i could instal something better. It's 2009.
|
So you are talking about a 2009 truck and not a 12V??.
If so, you will have better luck posting in the correct forum. |
No man not the truck....
The year it is right now.. Theres got to be something better than 1997 tech... Longevity and what not... Changing the filter is all well and good but whats up with the FASS kind of stuff and pre filters..is it worth it? I like my truck.:ok1: Oh and that ticking bothers me... |
airdog is deffinately the best pump by far the new airdog 165 is a bt morer than the 150s but imo i think it is worth it 100% as far a fass i wouldnt they are more money and i dont think they are as good a pump the airdog has bigger lines to

Theres nothing wrong with the 1997 tech. The 12V fuel system including the transfer pump and injector pump is bulletproof. The only weakness is that changing the fuel filter is not a very pleasant task. Yes, the FASS or Airdog with the filters will provide better filtration, and makes changing the fuel filter easier - but thats about all its going to do for you. Again, the stock system is good for 600 hp. |
no sh#t... :yeah:Cause 500 to a 1000 bones on a lift pump, sounds like a build up to me... Don't get me wrong, I work the hell out of my truck. Then take the kids to the beach. I was just thinking there might be something alittle better then stock. Does the install of an after market system involve all new fuel lines? Out here on the rock I just seem to have to make stuff work alot..I was looking for a bolt in replacement. A few fittings and stuff, a wire harness and the like is ok but all new lines:argh:. Best to ask then to screw the pooch.

Fass or Airdog

My lift pump was making the same ticking noise A little over a year ago.So i had a shop near my place replace it with a new one.A month later the new one was making the same ticking noise.I had it replaced again and they found it to be defective. It hasnn't done it since. You can just put in a new one.I asked the shop the same question you are.And they said the lift pump on the 12v's are really durable, even with modded trucks.
|
Yeah i don't think i'm gonna hit the 500hp mark any time soon. So mabe a stocker would be best.. Easy on the wallet at least.
|
It was easy for my wallet to.The ticking was driving me crazy to
|
I wanna skip the shop part though, Paying rent for my carport is better then 100 an hour in a shop..:notworking: Any reason not to? Was it electric or mechanical? It's on the rail right..
|
It is mechanical and not electrical.Man that sucks not having a job.Hope you get one soon. It's not on the rail.Thats a later 24v cummins. It's on the lt side of the engine mounted to the block located below the fuel filter.
|
its bolted on the driver side of the engine block under the fuel filter, its easy to swap, it looks like a fuel pump off an old small block chevy gasser.....
|
Best to get at it from under the truck or "gulp" from on top..
After instal i'll have to prime the system right.. with the little primer ball? That damn ticking seems to come from drivers door area.. OH well, i'll get a new stocker on the way today.. |
pull the drivers side wheel off, then the inner fender out, then u can look straight at it, its 2 bolts n 2 fuel lines n its out, only took me n my buddy about 45 minutes
|
What about priming the system afterwards?
Do i use the primer ball on or close to the pump? |
there's a primer bulb right on your lift pump, pump it til u feel the fuel goin thru n then it should be good
|
mabey thats my problem i thought mine had an exaust leak but i couldnt find it any where.
