Turbo question

I have a new idea for a turbo setup. I want to see what everyone thinks of it before i build it, i wanna see if anyone will think it will work (other than me). if this is a dumb idea i will just find an hx-40 and put on it. let me know.
cody Sorry for the bad paint shop turbos and pipes. |
I don't get it...:s:
Care to elaborate a little so we can all be on the same page? Oh wait, maybe I do, you are thinking 1 turbo or 1,2,3 cylinders and another for 4-6? |
you got it. 1 2 3 have a stock hx-35
4 5 6 have another i saw it on a drag truck and it got me thinking why doesnt anyone else do this. so i thought i would try it make up dual 3 cylinder headers, with true twin turbos. also with 30psi coming out both turbos would it still be 30 psi going into the intercooler since both outlets would be run together? or would it be 60. that got me confused. the reason this all started was i blew up my stock turbo with 5psi of boost and the exhaust wheel just broke off with no indication at all. |
well i dont think you will get 30psi out of 3 cylanders anyways, think with the exhaust from 6 cylanders your getting 30psi, so from each one of turbos on 3 cylanders your probably making half that and the turbo lag would be rediculous, thats basically putting a HX35 on a 3.3 cummins way too big. just get the HX40 but remember the shafts on those are weaker then the 35 just something to think about, as for the pressure thing as far as i can think which isnt very far seeing as how its 12:40 in the morning, you would still be making the same amount of pressure, it may increase by a few psi because your restriciting it by forcing two turbos worth of air into one pipe causeing a restriction. that may increase it a few psi but it wont double as far as i can tell

I can't even imagine the machining and fabrication work that would go into this to make it all seat right. By the time you got done you could install a set of triple turbo's and save money. Much less the trial and error fixes. This is one of those projects for people that make their livin building this stuff.

It was tried by one one the NE TDR guys and it didn't work. The pulse signal doesn't allow for the turbos to spool properly by using 3 cylinders to spool each turbo. It was a bigtime lag pig until it lit, then it ran fine.It had way more lag than a large set of performance twins......Andy

it will work
i saw a guy up here do it TRUE TWINS! i have thought about this from some time. but i think 2 hx35's are too big maybe 2 garrett t3's then compunded that to two more hx35's or hx40's i dunno where you would put 4 turbo's but that is just about the best way to make massive power! i have even seen 1 turbo per cylinder! on a gasser |
Just how much power would it take to pull the frame in half.:duh3: Now we want 4 turbo's.
|
so i geuss just get an PDR hx40 and be done with it?
Also if anyone has one for sale used, good, and semi cheap i am interested. becuase $1326 shipped to my door is a little outrageous on my income. also any other ways or other turbos that are good? any suggestions appreciated. thanks Cody |
Contact shops. Some times they have used ones they have rebuilt available, but they don't advertise em. You can also buy rebuild kit's if you find a used one out there. Ebay always has several listed.
