High EGT's

do my egt's seem high, on the highway im cruising at 70mph at 800* and of boost, around town probably 650-750, going up a hill getting on it i can see 1000* does that seem high for a truck with no fueling mods except the starwheel and that wont effect it that much i dont beleive, and also a 5 inch straight exhaust and an intake? it seems high to me how bout you, also what could be the problem

Sounds a bit high. I cruise around 800* on the stocker, aint got any numbers yet with the Super B.

what do you think would be the cause of the high EGT's, could a bad injector be a cause of high EGT's, someone said that a bad injector could be the cause of my wierd idle, which is in another thread

ndurbin 06-16-2007 09:00 AM

Well it could be alot of things.

Slipped timing, worn out injectors (popping off to early), boost leak (boots or the intercooler), or star wheel setting.

The cause of high EGTs usually stems from to much fuel and not enough air. Or in some cases the truck has developed a boost leak and isn't getting the normal amount of air.

Hey Dbogo, check for boost leaks. I just had a v-clamp go bad and egt's went up by 150. Also they dont seem to high to me, at 75 mph with the comp on 1 my egt's run 950 and around town is the same and when I hit a hill 1100 is normal for my truck.:sen:

Hope this helps!!

i am going to put the 215 injectors in and see if anything changes, my starwheel is all the way loose but i heard that that wont effect EGT's thought, maybe i heard wrong but still with an intake and exhaust seems they should be lower

ndurbin 06-16-2007 06:29 PM

It'll affect your EGT's. All the way loose = more fuel sooner w/ less boost PSI.

I played with mine on my 94 and decided to leave it in the stock location after seeing the affects it did. Tried all the way loose, all the way tight, and in the stock location. Loose raised my EGTs by 100*, tight dropped them 100* in OD compaired to the stock setting. I see 800* @ 75mph in the stock setting.

Make sure the 215s have been pop tested and everything so their set-up right before ya drop them in.

im going to take them to the deere dealer, thats the closest to me, and have them pop test and ultrasonic clean them, they should be good came out of a 98 12v with 75k miles on them but i just want to make sure
