Banks Powerpak Kit

My 98 has the complete Banks kit which was in it when I bought the truck. The stock cat converter is still in place, with a 3 1/2 inch Banks catback exhaust. Would I gain much by going to a full 4 inch turbo back exhaust? I think the kit has a new fuel plate, the exhaust, an aluminum twin snorkel intake, K&N filter, and temperture/ boost guage kit.

IMO, you arent going to gain much at all with a 4". I have not heard of a 3 & 1/2" exhaust before. Are you sure about that? The stocker is 3".

If your looking for performance, I would remove the cat (its probably plugged anyway), and get some bigger injectors, and maybe do a more aggressive cut on the fuel plate, of course tuning the AFC is a good thing too.

I agree with the cat removal, grind the plate to a 100 or remove it, and tune the afc for starters what do you wanna do with this truck? is it a DD, tow rig, drag race, or sled puller?

It's a 98 12V used as a tow vehicle. It has good power as is, but has a bit of lag to get rolling. If there are some mods that would help and not ruin fuel mileage and driveability. Also I have a BD brake that doesn't do much, probably would work better with a 5 speed than an auto.

Sorry, I failed to mention a 3k Governor spring kit. This will also be a good mod for you. with a few parts, you can be pushing 350-400 hp for little $$.

Tom, do you know about fixing the Killer Dowel Pin (KDP)?

timing will also help you

What does grinding the fuel plate do? This has an aftermarket plate already, does it need modified? What kind of injectors and why? How much injector timing on a stock motor? Is there a book I need to buy that will tell me how to do this stuff? How high is safe on the rpm of a stock motor? What is tuning the afc?

I heard about the KDP, but don't know if it has been done before I bought it or not! I do know it's a real bitch to see the side of the motor to even find the oil pressure sender, maybe if I remove the tube going from the intercooler to the intake will make it easier? I do know I would like to make this thing run as good as I can without reliablity problems. Any help will be appreciated. Most of what you guys are talking about is greek to me as all my hot rodding has been gas motors. That's what got me into a diesel in the first place, hauling my race car across the country.

thanks,
Tom
