looks as if you are missing another big spring

hereismylife 05-10-2009 01:55 PM

No the big springs should be the idle spring or the very otter spring from what I searched.

If I am right they do not come in a kit..:humm:

94cummins12v 05-10-2009 05:57 PM

hell its been over 1 1/2 years since i installed mine let me find my directions

hereismylife 05-10-2009 07:19 PM

I think I got it due to some great members on the forum. It is no in yet just checking things out....:humm:

biged681985 05-10-2009 08:02 PM

looks like you might still have some washers in the gov. housing bud.

update.....? still not 100%

THANKS GUYS FOR ALL THE TIME ON THE PHONE. I AM REALLY GLAD FOR THE TIME,TALK, & HELP

I got it in and the idle was to low to keep it running. I turned up the idle and it idles very smooth. I idled it for a little and rev the motor kinda quick and it will rev to about 2500 to 3000 and start missing. I said ah it is cold....no go.. I tried to rev it slowly and it will rev till about 3000 and do the same thing.

I wonder what is going on...:humm:

1.Maybe it is low on fuel
2.maybe I have to tighten the springs a little
3.maybe the 60lb springs will solve it but it starts only at 2500-3000 plus if I rev slow it will be fine till about 3000-3200

Anyone have any suggestions?

FastCR 05-11-2009 11:57 PM

joe it hates you cuz ur a homo. didn't you save the instructions?! :pals:

94cummins12v 05-12-2009 12:05 AM

once there in you have to adjust the idle.

Right that is what I did I am just wondering since I did all of this and updating the posts for everyone how will I know when they are dialed in for full potential?

FastCR 05-12-2009 12:10 AM

thread jack: why aren't you on AIM homo? :humm:

biged681985 05-12-2009 12:36 AM

you need your truck timed. just put 4 k in mine, once it got to 2500+ it would pop like i had glass packs on my truck. timed it, works good

94cummins12v 05-12-2009 12:37 AM

hell mine still pops at 2500 even with 18.5* timing

hereismylife 05-12-2009 01:07 AM

hhhhmmmmm I wonder why yours pops... Maybe we are on to something here:humm:

Who knows

I now need to see with the truck warm to see if it clears up or not and go from there. If anything I also need to get these springs done so I don't have to worry about the valves hitting while I am trying to get this figured out.

94cummins12v 05-12-2009 01:12 AM

ya, i went with the hd vavve springs but maily because of my exhaust break. i can relly notice the poping doing boosted launches

hereismylife 05-12-2009 01:18 AM

Well tom I will warm it up go for a drive and give it some revs and maybe I can make a video of it and see what I find out. Remember having a automatic I can't rev it out like the manuals to see if it will still miss:argh:

biged681985 05-12-2009 01:24 AM

lock it in second, get on it till it revs out, if its timing it willbe bad through there
or at least mine was

I agree I think you need to fix timing and check fuel pressure

djwhonda92 05-13-2009 09:10 AM

ya cuz i got 4000gsk installed in my truck monday. and it actually lowered my idle almost 200 rpms down on its own. i have 17.5 timing. and i notice no problem with it missing. and i can rev it up as high as i want, so far i've only gone to 3300 but it gets hot.

392hemix 05-14-2009 09:12 AM

Hmm, i got the 4gsk, it does not pop. i have the stock timming too. I am thinking that these trucks all react differnt, i just put the 3gsk in my buddies truck, it worked great and about 3 weeks later it started to act up, it will rev fine, then it will start climbing byitself, i don't know what the deal is but i do know it stopped once i set the idel to a lower thanb recomended postion, like 600 or something. These pumps are strange.

hereismylife 05-14-2009 01:15 PM

update...

I agree. Each truck is different.

I got to drive mine for about 45min on the hwy. I got it to run to about 3200 and had 1/4 left to go. It did not have any problems reving this time.

I was getting parts for the engine and came back out to go home and it starts hard now I have to give it fuel to get it started and once it is started it will idle at 800 rpm.

The saga continues ..............................

Beets 05-14-2009 04:47 PM

i have had to just barely tap the peddle to get mine to start. about every 12v i have drove was like this so kinda consider it normal.

392hemix 05-14-2009 04:47 PM

Just keep messing with it i guess, i noticed in your pictures that there is 2 shims less than what i pulled out of mine...try seeing if you can pull some more out, i left some in there the first time around. but who knows like i said all pumps are different, when i did my budies kit he had big fat shims, i don't really understand why these pumps are all diffrent, but could see why, just factory diffrences in tolrances? i don't know, but i would really like to talk to a pump specialist about this. if i had all day and a dyno i would play with it more and see if i can tune it better, but it seems to be acting fine now. let us know how your soga ends or continues in that matter, im interested in hearing:pca1:

hereismylife 05-15-2009 09:42 PM

Well about the pumps. They put these in to make the pumps into spec by adding the spacers if I am correct. It is like balancing a tire impo. So by taking the shims out you unbalence the pump and add the springs....Anyhow I could be wrong.

From what I found out about the kit. I did get the springs measured and installed collectly finally. Basically you have the bottom spring retainer, top spring retainer, springs, and the nut

Put them in the way you took them off or about 3 clicks and you are good so to speak.

Also they do pull harder. I would say on my setup it was 4% up to 60 then about 5% up to 100

I think I am getting air in my system but I am going to do some testing....

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I got it figured out.:U:

It was the shut off level being in to far. I took it off to take the plug off the side of the pump to do this. When I put it back on I pushed it to far against the pump and made the shut of bind up. I ran it all day and no problems at all except the normal......

thanks guys for the help.........:c:

relay93 05-16-2009 04:08 PM

So it was fuel supply problems.
