Head work?

What kinda head work needs to be done to handle 65psi? Will just studs do it or do I need more?

I've heard of just going and re-tightening your stock studs and you can handle a bit more, does anyone know about how much the head can handle with just re-tightening stock studs?

o-rings on the head will handle 65psi with a stock gasket and studs but thats about the limit im having the block and head o-ringed.

rallyit67 05-07-2009 03:14 PM

so o-ring the head and stock studs? or aftermarket studs?

Stock, they are "bolts" not studs. :w2:

whats a ball park figure on how much it will cost to get it o-ringed:humm:

I am more concerned on who will do it. No one in nh does that stuff.

i got my head o-ringed for $250. i have o-ringed and ported/polished head and am running 12mm arp studs with a .020 over marine gasket

how many PSI should one expect to have when running around 400rwhp

94cummins12v 05-08-2009 12:28 AM

dont mater about psi it depends on the size of the turbo. you can have the stock turbo at 30-35psi making 400hp or you can have a aftermarket big turbo making 20-25psi paking 400hp it all depends on what you got for modifications

if im going to o ring it and have studs should i just be putting back on a stock thickness gasket or something a little thicker? is there a benefit for using a thicker gasket or different gasket then stock?
