4k govener spring kit

about how much are these kits and what all is involved in putting them in. my truck pulls hard till about 3k. then starts losing ass and i want it to pull longer. i have a buddy that can install it but would rather do it myself.

I believe its much the same as the 3k spring install.....PDR governor spring installation You should get a decent set of instructions, depending on where you get them from.

You also need to put in the HD valve springs.

The DYnomite Diesel Kit includes both 3K and 4K springs :U:

Pretty easy. Just make sure to put the nuts on the same distance. Use a set of vernier calipers to measure the stud stick out.

4K is the same as a 3K with one extra spring in the pack.

And if you do it right, you'll be putting in 60# valve springs. Otherwise the valves will float at around 3800 RPM.

Good luck:rocking:

if you have the 3K in already you can buy the conversion kit for cheap. post up a price request thread in the price request forum

that just answered my next question. i was not sure if i had to set valve springs. My truck will turn about 3600 rpm now but stats falling on its face around like 2900 rpm so i guess ill wait a lil before i decided to do this kit just yet.

4Ks pull harder down low...

It could be your timing im runnig 16* with my 4ks and my power falls off around 3100-3200. Ive heard you need more timing to have power 3k+

Hey guys I am new to the site and I have a gov spring issue. I noticed on my pump the large outer idle spring had one large flat washer under one side but the opposite side had one large flat plus a very narrow large flat washer (big hole in the middle). The truck seems to idle perfectly. Should I start over and re-shim the idle springs? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The tech info on here is killer by the way!!

ajoebob 02-14-2009 09:13 AM

the factory uses shims to even the springs out.if you buy a 3 gsk or a 4 gsk they tell you not to put the shims back in. they are only there becuse the factory springs where not the right spring rate.

1994Cummins 02-14-2009 09:23 AM

Thanks for quick reply. I am refering to the large outer idle spring shims. I removed all the inner ones for the springs that were replaced. My concern is that the count was different 2 on one side vs 1 on the other.

Thanks
