i put one in mine and then after about 2 months i gutted it completely, my opinion is i had better luck with it gutted than with the kit

The kit is more benefitial for the 215 pump. The rest of the pumps had fairly soft AFC springs and adjusting the starwheel is pretty easy to do. The 215 pump spring is pretty stiff and only a few clicks on the wheel makes huge changes to the fuel ramp. I found the AFC kit to really make the fueling more adjustable. So to be short...It can help if you are into tuning the fuel closely, but for your model year, probably not a huge change.

So would I be alright with the #100 plate I just got if I did gut it? Is it hard to gut?

I have a 100 plate in my truck with the Afc spring kit I used the lighter of the two springs seat of the pants feeling is it did make an improvement although I also moved the fuel plate forward about 1/8" at the same time.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it in your truck until you get to doing injectors and DVs and such, and then I would go with a stiffer spring for more control. Rather than gutting the AFC, I would also recommend grinding the foot on the AFC arm and switching the washers around the diaphragm in there. That should make a big difference. Also, adding a 2095 rack plug and shimming the gov springs will make a huge difference as well. This is all stuff that can be done free or cheap, however the pump needs to be pulled to switch the rack plug (or grind your timing cover, which I don't like) but that creates a good time to time your pump as well.

Do it all in a day, and your truck will be a whole different beast when you're done.
