starwheel adjustment
what should i adjust my starwheel to with a 0 plate in my pump i blocked my wastegate and cant seem to get any smoke down low only in od ive got bith the plate and wheel all the way forward or should i just gut the afc and does that have adverse affects

Not saying it's good or bad but, I have mine gutted with no problems so far.

which way did u go with the starwheel? Towards or away from the engine. I just recently took my fuelplate out but even with the 100 plate and starwheel adj it creates a big cloud. But the reason why it dont smoke in lower gears is cause its running to many rpms and its defueling. A govenor spring kit (gsk) will fix that though.

went towards the engine what does gutting the afc or running no plate do how bad does it kill the mileage i like goin 750 miles to a tank

if you sit there and put the star wheel full forward then your just dumping tooo much fuel.. all your doing is making the engine bog down, which means turbo lag. If you just tune the star wheel properly there will be less smoke and the turbo will light quicker. but thats just all from what ive learned

Are you sure you didn't also block the boost line going to the AFC? If that line is blocked it won't matter how loose you set the spring. I personally wouldn't gut it as the loss of drivability is not worth it. besides like ^ said if you dump too much fuel in too quick you actually make your truck SLOWER. Here is a pic to kind of give you an idea how this works.

on my truck i never blocked the wastgate even when i had the stock turbo. i just slaped a boost elbow right on the front of the turbo set it to where i wanted it , adjusted the star wheel to where i had a little bit more then enough fuel to spin make the turbo light and i was done with it. When i got my 64 on i put in the exhaust manifold, and the hx-40 style dp at the same time. all i had to do for that was adjust the wastegate because it came with an adjustable one. then i test drove it tuned the star wheel again to make the turbo light how i wanted it which means less smoke but thats due to quicker spool

i gutted my afc and took the plate out, im not too worried about it. bunch of smoke down low if u stomp on it but if u let the turbo keep up theres no smoke. also i have no elbow and i havent blocked it and i bury my boost gauge (30psi gauge, stops at 32psi ish)

I concur. My starwheel is still too far forward for my liking. Smoke every once in a while is okay (and when I want it to), but trying to merge into traffic and getting nothing but a slow-spooling turbo and a giant cloud of smoke is not what gives me my jollies.
