Grid Heater Delete
I noticed they make a grid heater delete spacer for summer use. but on 12 valves the grid heater and intake plate ( i geuss thats what you call it) are one unit. so i geuss what im asking is, are you able to take one off of a 24 valve and put it on a 12? the whole plate and grid heater so i dont have to change the whole plate when it gets cold. Also where would someone find the plate and grid heater? Just wondering cuase i want as much rescriction gone as possible so i can try and get better fuel mileage.

wtfd6 had some custom ones made up and I asked them about one for a 12 valve. They are working on a cover and heater delete but I dont think they have them yet. You might shoot him a pm.

well its awesome that i have another engine. I actually took the electrical grids out of the intake plate. it is only bolted in. two bolts in the back need only to be lossened, and the front 2 can be removed. and voila, you have a delete.
it is alot of work as the plate must be removed from the truck. which also involves removing the injection lines. Just wanted to let you guys know what i found, it will probably be able to be reinstall when it gets cold, but it is still alot of work, unless you have an old one layin' around u wont need like i did. Ill let u know how it does when i replace it on tuesday, my day off, hopefully it does alot. Thanks Cody |
what are the pros or cons of deleting the grid heater?

Every Grid Heater Delete on the market is just a Grid heater frame with no coils in it thats it , Had one on the 94 CTD you just tape up the heater wires pull the intake horn off , Remove the intake heater and put the blank frame on there and put the intake horn back on , takes like 10 mins .
You can only use it during the summer , then when it starts getting cold throw your stocker back in there , I dont see where the delete makes that big of a deal or if its even worth the 10mins of hassle , the heater fins are vertical and if you add there thickness all to gether its probly less than 1/2 inch blockage of compressed air |
yep, not a lot of point to them, especially on the second gen trucks.
