1997 cummins

I have a 97 dodge cummins 5 speed that is pretty much stock motor wise. I put a 4 inch straight pipe on it and now looking to make around 400hp. I've been reading up and people have been saying to put a fuel plate on, a cold air intake and injectors for quick easy hp. What kind of fuel plate do people recommend? What kind of injectors do you recomend? Or just what are easy upgrades that you recomend? Thanks

400HP worth of injector with the stock turbo is going to melt something. Cold air intakes are generally money better spent elsewhere on these trucks, a BHAF (a quick search here should pull up some chain store part #s) is more than enough and relatively cheap. Not cheap for an air filter, but at least 5x cheaper than any CAI that isn't home made. For what it's worth, I ran thousands of miles with and without a heat shield, a full heat reflective box, etc, on mine and didn't notice a damn bit of difference in EGT or performance. As for quick and easy, that all depends on your mechanical inclination. There are a host of "free" fuel pump mods you can read up on here, to varrying degrees of difficulty. I'd start with a 4000rpm governor spring kit. It's cheap, and even if you pay someone to install it it's still cheaper than buying a CAI and will make a world of difference, especially as you do other things on top of it. Have you taken care of the KDP? That's important. I'd pull out the fuel plate and slide the AFC housing forward just to get an idea what the truck is capable of with the stock turbo and injectors, then you'll know what sort of plate you should be shopping for to tune out the extra fuel (there will be).
