95 new tranny or rebuild old
1 Attachment(s)
Hi I have a '95 2500. and I'm looking to get more torque and hp cheap, I bought a new torque converter (bd enhanced stall, still waiting on ups) and was looking at transmissions but all of them are in the $3500 range which I can spend but it'd be better if I can avoided, so my question is, is it cheaper to order $700 worth of parts and have a mechanic re-do the old tranny or should I just order a new one from some of this big diesel companies? Also I wanna know if 40hp injectors and a #10 fuel plate is a good combo. I don't want any crazy hp but Iwant more than the stock. by the way truck/engine is completely stock with no mods at all so far.
thanks for your responses. |
Personally I would take it to a trans shop if you have a good one that you trust.
What are your power goals for the truck would be a great place to start, I know you said nothing crazy but an actual number make it much easier. |
I was thinking to get anywhere from 250 to 300 hp. Most of my driving is long distance highway miles. I'm also looking to get a new exhaust manifold and a set of gauges to monitor the egt and transmission once it is reinforce or rebuild.

Unless your stock manifold is cracked or leaking I would not waste your money on an exhaust manifold. That HP goal is fairly easy and cheap to hit a good intake, exhaust, fuel plate, gov springs, some AFC tuning, boost elbow, and a timing bump should get you close to 250 HP.
For your trans a good valve body Torque converter will be all you need but a input shaft would also be a good upgrade while your in there. |
