12v fuel plate
I'm posting this to get some quick insight. I recently purchased a 1997 12 valve cummins. The previous buyer had the fuel plate at #10, slid all the way forward. Being the diesel head I am, I tore into my truck and ground the plate off to a #0 and left it all the way forward. I tightened the smoke screw a bit and mu star wheel is clicked roughly 3-5 times. I'm very impressed with the outcome. Although, I may back the smoke screw off a turn or two depending on how I feel. My real question is: is there anything I should be worried about? I have a rebuilt stock tranny (roughly 20-30k miles) and the transfer case was gone through at the time of the rebuild. I have my pyrometer along with boost and trans temp gauges so I can monitor my engine. Thanks for the help!

Get ready to do that tranny again.

that stock TC wont last long at all .. :td::nope:

At that power level your really not going to break anything unless you really rip it a lot. Then ya the trans will go fairly quick if you beat it. My buddy who's truck I do all the work on just dyno'd at 405/847 on a stock trans that works good for now while we wait for his race trans. Hasn't slipped yet. If you do it right it's quite easy to get power out of these things.

having a good trans temp gauge will tell the story Quickly .. :c:
|
Oh ok. I'm not ripping it everywhere I go so I should be safe. Everything feels tight and it doesn't feel like anything is going wrong. If it comes down to it, I'll slide the plate back and back the smoke screw off.

I wouldn't even touch the smoke screw, it nearly has no purpose. No power is offered by it, as long as your nice to the truck the trans should hold for a while. Just slowly save your pennies and buy a well built trans once .

Smoke screw should be all the way in tight .. least amount of smoke that way .. :c:
|
I think you mean all the way backed out.
|
NO.. backed out all the way is more smoke ( least on my truck it is ..LOL) ..:c:
