Gov spring kit

I have a 97 2500, contemplating putting a 4k gsk on it what else would be good to do along with it?

install them and enjoy. if your truck actually revs to the 3500rpm range then install heavier valve springs.

If you are driving an auto, it is most likely going to want to shift at or around 3K, the only advantage to you in an auto that I have seen with the 4K spring is that you know you will have full fuel up to the point the transmission will want to shift, where as the 3K gsk will be out of fuel just before that point. I love the 4k in my manual as it allows me to run a little further into RPM in a lower gear while towing to keep momentum on hills etc.

I too will be looking to get 4K's in my truck ... my trans now shifts great, now I can worry about cutting down my Et when it comes racin time ..

I have the 5 speed so the shifting is not a problem. Sounds good..

I wish that every minute of every day that it isn't snowing. I need to move south...

Isn't the 6th gear in the nv5600 the same ratio as the 5th in the nv4500 ?

no the NV4500 was .75 and the 5600 is .73.. close but a few rpm's different

gunslingerburkhart 06-17-2014 02:57 PM

I thought about swapping until I was told that they weren't much different in a 5 vs 6 speeds top gear ratios

The difference ..

with 315's ( 35's) and 3.55's would be ..

nv4500 @ 70 mph = 1810 rpm's
vn5600 @ 70 mph = 1762 rpm's

Not a huge difference, but the more gears in the 6 spd makes it easier to tow and keep the engine in its Power range more effectivly .... and preference and avaliablity ..

gunslingerburkhart 06-17-2014 03:09 PM

Yeah, that it would, not worth the cost to me for that.

I agree, go 5 and if you get serious, then grab a 6 spd truck .. just easier and you dont have to re-engineer the truck to make it work ..

gunslingerburkhart 06-17-2014 05:27 PM

Which one is the stronger trans ive heard people swear the 6 but also people for the 5

Whichever one you took apart and upgraded.

4x4manonbroke 06-17-2014 06:58 PM

Yeah, they both have thier draw backs ... 5th gear nut on 4500 , shafts on the 5600, case has some weakness on the 5600 as well, ( under real big power .. )..
