does anyone have experience with the Banks stinger kit? I've just aboutgot myself talked into doing this...but iam looking for anyone who has used this on a cummins 12-valve (stock)...comes with air filter...fuel plate...Bighead wastegate act...Dyna muff....Tailpipe and gauges...is this worth tyhe money and how true are the power numbers they advertise? Any help appreciated.....

The power numbers they advertise are very close to what gains you will see. But that kit will only get you so much power, its a very nice reliable kit that probably wont hurt the transmission too bad if it does, but the 12v can make tons of power u just have to ask some cummins guys they will help you with any questions.

well for a daily driver i wouldnt go anything higher than what ive got done in my sig and i bought all that off of unemployment so its not to much money

Bank is a nice, safe kit for a daily driver.

But, the bottom line is - save youre money - you can do it way cheaper. You pay a lot of extra hard earned money to have that Banks name on your truck, JMO.

I'm with Dr. Evil on this one... How much do you need to point to the Banks sticker? Is it worth 3-5x the money compared to doing it yourself?

Fuel plate is easy, pull it out and grind it down to the profile you need, like a 10, or a 100. We also need to know if your truck is a slushbox or a stick-shift, it makes a big difference.

For the wastegate, just pull the line and plug it, or get a J-hook or a boost elbow to set it where you want it (About 32lbs).

Make sure you get gauges! Thats the first step otherwise you risk a meltdown.

You can also mess with your AFC and Starwheel if you want.

Do a search, you'll find out a whole lot about how to's and whatnot.

Believe me i realize that i'm gonna be payin awhole lot more than needs be...but i have to confess that i'm ignorant when it comes to mechanic work...well i've never done it! And i guess i'm willing to pay for it...not only am i gonna spend the money on the Banks i'll probably end up havin Illinois Dyno Center install it!...So you can probably Figure out how much money i'll be wasting...Anyway guys thanks for your help...By the way MotoroilmcCall my truck is automatic....but feel free guys to keep tryin to talk me out of it.. I wont have time to even get over there for a couple of weeks...

Ultimately, its your choice. We can tell you what to get and where to get it, but you have to take care of the install. FYI, you can buy the same type of stiff that Banks sells and have someone else install it.

On thing, you REALLY have to shop around to find a shop that is very knowledgeable on the 12V. This just isnt a bolt on parts deal. To get the most out of the performance parts you have to find someone that can do some tuning for you.

Abnd one more thing - have you tabbed your Killer Dowel Pin (KDP)??

No i have not done anything with the dowel pin...not sure if it has been done before i owned it either ...is this something that i can check? I've read many threads concerning this as a potential problem...but was under the assumption that it is not a very common problem..I must be wrong about that or you wouldn't have mentioned it>

Dr. Evil check out this site ILLINOISDYNOCENTER.COM this is the only shop in the area that i could find...its about 15 miles from me...From talking with them on the phone they seem to know what they are talking about...but since i know nothing ....they could be reading from a manual for all i know..

Well, the dowel pin is a problem on all 12Vs and many 24V's. Unfortunately, the only way to check to see if its been repaired is to pull off the front cover off the timing case. You dont really sound likle a hands on kinda guy to me so this job probably isnt for you.

I cant comment on the illinios dyno center - looked at their webpage - and dont see much info for 12Vs. Thats the problem with a 12V, unlike haveing a 24V where you just plug in a compter box, a 12V takes some skill and knowledge.

Wasnt the dowel pin problem fixed on the 24v blocks?

Being the same block i imagine some of the earlier 24v engines had the problem but it shouldnt have been many!

Like mentioned above, With banks you are getting a good quality piece but you are paying alot more for the name than the part!

Personally i wouldnt go for it, if your going to spend a good buck to have someone install it i wouldnt start off by getting raped on the parts!
