Fuel plate cons?

Id like to get more power out of my twelve valve and i heard about adjusting the fuel plate. I know you gain so many horse power but what is the catch?:s::s: does it effect the longevity of the engine? screw up fuel mileage? I would like to know any negatives of doing this to my truck before trying it. the truck does have 252,000 on it if that makes a difference.:humm:

the more power any engine make the less it will last. you have to choose between

power
reliability
cost

good luck getting all 3 LOL

If it's been maintained, that mileage is no issue. Just broken in. Fuel economy will go up, if you can keep your foot out of it with the new umph. Longevity... well, the 12V will still outlive the Dodge it's powering by a wide margin almost no matter what you do to it. As for reliability, the engine won't be the problem, except inasmuch as it will now have the balls to find every single weak link in the rest of the truck. Thankfully, while plagued with weaknesses, these Rams die hard. Very few things go wrong with them without giving lots of warning first, they can limp along stoutly for months and miles, and if you keep it maintained and inspect everything regularly you shouldn't be taken by surprise. The few things that can go wrong out of nowhere are relatively easy to fix on the road with basic tools and/or creative mickymousing. Keep some basics with you if you range far from home, like a serpentine belt, lift pump, starter. These parts are cheap insurance as spares. But really, those parts are as likely to go bad on an unmodded 12V. I drive mine hundreds of miles for work almost every day, and aside from the automatic transmission gremlins, it has never let me down. If you have a stick, of course, even this won't be a potential issue for you. But if you do, chances are still very good it won't fail spectacularly on you unless you're asking for it. A little common sense goes a long way, fastidious service even farther.
