P7100 Throttle Stop for Exhaust Brake
 
My rig is pumped up pretty good now with all the mods but I have a problem to solve with the Exhaust Brake. When I turn the throttle stop down so the exhaust brake works well, I get throttle pop stall, if I turn it up to solve the stall, the exhaust brake becomes much less effective.

I have thought of three solutions:

Engage the fuel cutoff solenoid when the exhaust brake is active but I fear harming the P7100 due to lack of lubrication that might cause. I've been coming down a few passes with the brake on for a long time.

I also was considering a fancy throttle stop with a damper effect piston. I like what low idle gives me both when the exhaust brake is engaged and the lack of extra pull against the trans at full stop. I have a fitting on the exhaust brake that pushed pressure when the brake is active. I thought I would pipe that up to the pump and use a pressure activated throttle stop that drops the stop down when activated to close fuel down at the pump and returns to the proper idle when not activated, the stop I remember way back in the day also has a throttle damper that extends while throttle is applied and dampens the close stopping pop throttle stall.

Last would be to put a throttle damper against the linkage to stop throttle pop stall and leave the throttle adjusted like it is. I would do this on the fuel stop implementation as well to help with the low idle I like mentioned above.

Anyone encountered this problem before? Would really like to hear how you solved it.

I'm curious... Why do you think the extra little bit at idle is affecting the exhaust brake?

As for lube; the P7100 is oil lubed internally so it should stand up to no fuel, but I would definitely not starve it of fuel intentionally. I'd stay away from that fuel shutoff solenoid idea as well. However, that begs the question, is the fuel shutoff fully engaging? The "sputtering" almost sounds like it's trying to starve itself of fuel at "low idle" as it is...but then again too low of an idle setting will do that as well.

I'm still stuck on how the idle setting is messing with the exhaust brake... :humm:
