Best turbo
Hey guys! I'm gonna be buying a new turbo pretty soon and I need some help on which brand to get? I'm pretty dead set on getting a 62/65/12 I'm gonna be running it with5x12s. But before I drop $1500 on a turbo I'd like to hear what brands you guys have had good luck with?

its a good turbo spools pretty quick but it chokes round 2800-3000 rpm

i have run a HTT 62/65/13 for a good long while now with SDX 5x12's, pretty good combo. it tows well can be driven totally smokeless BUT it can get VERY hot if i let it. normal driving and towing are very controllable, hot rodding around can and does get toasty expect excessive drive pressures above 2500rpms. i have nothing but good to say about this charger if... you arnt out to make gob and gobs of HP. it is a wonderful size for a pretty hot DD 12 valve. a good set of 5x12's complement it well but stock injectors get the jobs done just fine. i also would recommend the 14cm housing due to the choke/drive pressure issues you will have above 2500rpms. spool-up will be very close to stock.

there is also a BD 63/65/14 and we build a 63/68/12. all are good options. |

never ran one but talked to them on the phone a year or so back. supposedly the wastegates are quite a bit bigger than a bin unit scrolls are tighter so spool-up is gonna be quicker but with that comes the choking problem. they are quite a bit cheaper aswell.

I've ran a D-tech 65/62/12 in a number of different configurations over the past several years. For about a year it was a single. Then over the next couple of years, it was sitting on top of several different primaries.
Runs good as single with 5x12s. Set it at 40-42psi, and you won't likely have any problems with it. That's the good. The bad is.... when you start to push it any harder, some issues may arise. The standard thrust bearing doesn't hold up so well to high drive pressures. Doesn't take much wear before the compressor wheel can come forward and smack the front cover, $$$$. And, the arm holding the wastegate pucks can't take much drive pressure either. Too much, and it will bend back leaving the wastegate hanging open. Be aware though, some of the other major manufacturers have had the same problems, but most have since beefed their turbos up. Not sure if D-tech has. D-tech comments on how their wastegate flows more, well it doesn't really. Mine came with ~12mm ports, which is more or less the same as a lot of the other turbos. But the pucks are big enough to drill out a little bigger. Be aware again, bigger ports mean more pressure on the wastegate arm. And more of a chance that it'll bend. Mine works great now, but I'm not sure that it still can be called a D-tech. It has a different compressor wheel and a STEEL 360 thrust bearing. I milled out the whole wastegate area. Enlarged the ports to flow more than twice as much as the original ports. Oversize Inconel pucks with a heavy duty wastegate arm. Right now I'd call it a pretty awesome turbo. Even with the compounds hitting 90psi+ boost, the drive pressures are 1 to 1, due to all of the wastegate work. The D-techs are pretty much worth what they costs. If you want a better turbo, then you'll need to spend more. Personally, I'd go for one of JKidd's 63/68/12s with a 360 thrust bearing. |

crappy question, my guess is 375-425 but its nothing more than a guess till you put the truck on the rollers.

My 62/65/14 supported 487 waaaay overfueled. I like it, good turbo, got mine from John at Majestic turbo, he's a good guy. 360deg bearing and everything.

our 63/68/12 has a 16-17mm port and we can enlarge it for $50 to flow more.
