external wastegate???
so i walk i very tight line with my pick-up truck. it has to be a truck everyday, i pull a very heavy enclosed with it from time to time ect ect. my situation is with my turbine wheel size. i run a 62/65/13ss HTT and love it, its a wonderful turbo. problem is that i also enjoy the good joy rides with this truck from time to time. the small turbine just kill my top end. i can bury my 50psi gauge but have it running in the high 40's so i can monitor. the pyro is normally in check but it is possible to bury the 1500* mark. i need a drive pressure gauge but at this time do not have such a number to give you guys.
would an external gate help my engine make a little more power above where it does now? i am very very reluctant to go with a 71mm wheel. i know myself and know i would then be after bigger injectors. i dont want to go down this road. any thoughts? |
You could always do some work to your internal gate. Pull your cover and see if it has room to go bigger. Mine started out as 12mm ports and 20mm pucks, it now has 20mm ports with 25mm pucks. And it has enough room to go a little bigger. One thing though, if you enlarge it, the arm will need to be reinforced.

haddnt really thought about this. the actual structure of the are will beed braced? where do you find bigger pucks?

What are you trying to achieve
to lower your drive pressure and slow the spool or just better control |
better control. the truck is gonna get its first try on the dyno this spring. goal is 500hp with 5x12's and a 62/65/13. i can blow this little turbo off its MAP pretty quick and definitely want to gain a little more control over it without defueling. as mentioned before this truck has to be totally usable as a truck, no exceptions.
