clutch
I have not had very good luck with the Southbend clutches. First one I installed backwards, my fault. Still functioned perfectly for 4 months. Second one, shop installed, blamed master cylinder for its failure, supposedly put a new stock clutch in truck. Lasted 2 months of me babying it. Had transmission rebuilt, new SB clutch put in by a highly reputable guy the professional racers around here use. Seems like even right away, the clutch would slip, but it's lasted a year so far, still seems to slip if I really get on it. The clutch has been the Con OFE every time. I thought maybe I was actually pushing a lot of power, planned on dynoing the truck before a new clutch to get one tough enough.
So, my hp goal is 400 to 500 hp, started doing some research on reaching this, and am guessing that I am only at 250 hp, not more than 300. Anyone else had problems with SB clutches? |
I've had a South Bend Con OFEK (wich is rated 50hp lower than yours) and it's still good...
You have to be making over 600hp and driving really rough if your clutches burn up that quick !!! Get your truck dynoed, post your result... What have you done to your truck ? What mods does it have... I have the mods in my sig, and i've not yet had a single slip... |
We have put a lot of SB clutches in and never had that issue, like he said ^ you have to be pushing more HP than you think if your tearing it up

If you have the stock charger on it, you must have a bad crankshaft seal on the flywheel side of your motor, a bad seal in the transmission or something..
These clutches are bulletproof for the stock charger, and as you can see in my sig; i have compounds and not a single problem.. (hoho, i made a funny right there) Hands down the best daily driving clutch you can get for a lightly modded truck ! |

Yeah, there has to be some factor contributing to the failure of your clutch...
oil getting on it or something else, i know a few who have the same setup without a single problem... If your clutch is defective in any way, i KNOW from my own experience that South Bend are more than willing to stand by their product !!! |

I would think the very reputible mechanic you had put the clutch in would have noticed oil slinging every where and he would have told you about it so he could make a few more bucks but it is easy enough to check since there is a inspection plate. The only problem Ive had with SB is it is stronger than u joints and the nv4500.
