What makes 1995 cummins automatic improve pulling power?
 

I have a 95 cummins automatic. Everything is stock I need more power pulling. Is the engine or tranny the best place to start?

Tranny is always the best place to start...

But grinding your fuel plate, or getting a aftermarket #100 will improve pulling power significally...

Then AFC tuning will do wonders aswell, how heavy do you tow ?

You can always test the limits of your tranny and then get it rebuilt... but i prefer doing precautionary mods is the best way...

just go ahead and get the biggest tranny cooler you can get.

And dont skimp out on one of those junk Transcool single pass ones.... Those should be left in refrigerators and AC condenser units.. not trucks.

What size of injectors will be best to run with the #100 fuel plate? I heard that putting in a different torque converter will give me more power. I'm not looking to go race I Just want my truck to have enough power that when I am hooked on to a load of 20 ton and going up a 10% grade I can do it at 60 to 65 with out feeling like my truck is going to explode.

You can get very far with stock injectors...

Get a #100 (or a #0) plate and tune your AFC... but get gauges first...

For a Automatic truck i would get a pillar pod with the following:
Tranny Temp, EGT, Fuel Pressure

Overhead pod and add these two;
Boost, Backpressure

At some point your tranny WILL need a rebuild or upgrade...

a good TC and valve body would be the best start. then some tuning and you will notice a world of difference:tu:

TC and valve body first without a doubt! Then some gauges! Then you can handle a little extra hp :tu:

What company has the best bang for the buck throttle body?

none, of them do it yourself! they are robbing us with the prices on the dang things. $100 buys you a shift kit (wich in almost all ways is one of these performance VB's) or $700 for a ATS or BD piece. why do you think they want your core????? cause they put their own shift kit in it and sell it again. had a towing ats VB i disassembled just to see what was in there only to find 2 billet valves, thats all. nothing else done. didnt even have the circuit drilled for oil flow in park. stock seperator plate all the ball still there nothing but 2 cheap little valves.

ah... yes, I was going to say, back when I worked on 32rh jeep trannys, I would just modify the throttle body circuits myself, but I've searched and found no talk of any of that around here... Figured there must have been something more to it.


So who sells these shift kits? I used to buy mine from Dayco, and they were transgo brand If i remember.
