05 cummins with 205k burning oil

I just bought a 05 cummins in TX and changed the oil right awya to Mobil 1 5W-40 synthtic and it appears to be using oil. I drove the truck 1,500 mile to Green Bay, WI towing a car on a dolly behind me and it used 3 quarts. Also, when I check the oil, the dipstick is solid at the bottom and then get spotty at the top. I just drove 1,000 miles round trip to Ohio and it burned another 3 quarts pulling nothing. Should I be worried?

yes! can be turbo can be rings if the oil is spotty does it smell like diesel?

It does not smell like diesel. How should I diagnose the situation?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

It does seem to be getting bad gas mileage. 10 when towing and 13 when not.

Any obvious leaks? How is the compression looking on the engine?

There are no obvious oil leaks what so ever, so the oile must be going some where internally. How do I check the compression?
