serpentine belt shifting towards motor

hey guys not sure what this could be
2004 dodge ram 2500
a few months ago the tentioner pulley went out on my truck guess the pulley was real old and froze up and snapped the belt
so i changed the pulley and not the whole arm.put the new belt on and 1 minute after i started it it jumped a tooth back towards the motor. few weeks went by and i hear my belt ripping off. looked under the hood and half the belts gone. took it to the dealer they told me it was the idler pulley. they wanted to charge me 700.00 for the new pulley i told them no and it took me about 20 minutes to change the pulley and belt and 150 in parts. started it up and drove it fine a few hours.just looked under the hood and ones again the new belt is pushed over towards the motor but now a tooth has skipped over on the ac pulley have any of you guys had this issue? thanks in advances sorry for poor puncktuation and spelling

Only time I have seen that is with a pulley not aligned properly. Sometimes it can be seen with the naked eye, other times a straight edge is required to locate it.

which pulleys can be adjusted? the only other thing that has been worked on was the power steering/booster pump. now that i think of it problem started after that is this pump adjustable

I'm not too sure, but it seems like a great place to start looking. Even a loose mounting bolt can cause it to be crooked.

Replace the whole tensioner assembly! Problem solved!

I agree on replacing the whole assembly. When the spring gets worn in it, it can allow the pull to cock to one side and it can throw the belt.

I agree with the other 2. Replace the whole tensioner arm and pulley. The arm could have got damaged when the belt came apart and may not be noticeable. A slight alignment issue can cause your problem. I would not recommend shimming or trying to adjust any other accessory drive unit.. It will most likely cause more problems then when you started.
