04 no start need help please

so I am dooing a engine swap on an 04 non drive by wire I have it in and hooked up but it wont start I have low pressure fuel but I think I am missing high pressure fuel I have the scanner on it and it is reading only 1000 psi or so while cranking I have no codes I have swapped from the old engine crank sensor fuel pressure sensor and the electronic pressure regulator on the back of the cp3 am I right in thinking its the cp3?

please help I need to get this thing out of here before my boss looses his mind I am new to diesels and very new to cummins

thanks, ken

i can only understand half of that. are u saying that ur doing a engine swap on a 2004 dodge cummins? is it a 04 or a 04.5? is the engine from the same year. did it come from a 04 or a 04.5? is your lift pump working? is it a block mounted lift pump or a intank lift pump? a CR takes i think about 5k psi to start.

crack the lines at the injector and use the lift pump to prime the lines...........tighten each one when ya see fuel

also just to prove it will run you can spray WD40 in the intake while cranking just to prove

the engine is from the same production run i.e. early 04 we pulled injectors to verify before we put it in. it has had the update to the lift pump so it is in the tank. how long does it typically take to get fuel to the injector lines using your method Whit? I had the boss cranking while I had some fuel lines loose at the head (I have a really long 19mm wrench) and we got fuel so I tightened them but that didnt help. when I jump the lift pump relay and leave the lines loose at the head it dosent seem to want to push fuel up there.

something isnt pulling enough fuel. it your barely getting fuel i bet your lift pump is weak. it should pull fuel and bring enough to start within one or two key cycles. my truck is the same way. early 04 with the intank pump. and i pulled the fuse for the lift pump (not sure what it was at the time) and then within one to 2 key cycles it pulled fuel. i know it a little different but sounds like something like

now rail press is only like 200 we are getting our old cascade valve off the original eng tomrrow then recheck

unplug the cp3 and see what happens!

puckhead 05-31-2012 01:12 PM

nothing already changed the ipr to the known good one

dmaxkiller 05-31-2012 02:34 PM

i dont suppose the rail bleed off valve isnt stuck open? i dont remember what its called but i know theres a valve that bleeds off excess pressure

puckhead 06-01-2012 07:30 AM

isnt that valve the cascade valve? anyway changed the cascade valve yesterday still no luck I am paying for identifix today if the cp3 dont work.

what voltage do the injectors run at can I use my dvom to check for pulse?

I have a sneaking suspicion the computer isnt allowing it to build fuel I really hope its this pump
