07 6.7 problems

So, im a ford guy, and kind of at a loss here. my dad decided to try a new dodge back in 06, so he bought a 07 new right off the lot and put a bale bed on it to feed cows with. since then, it has been nothing but trouble for us. im going to leave out all of the many problems up till now. the truck has 73,xxx miles on it. in the last 2 thousand miles it has had a total of 5 injectors go out, the exhaust filter plugs, and we just got it back again from the dealer for the 3rd time in two weeks with another new injector and they did a bunch of work with the emission shit on it.. engine light is back on, its smoking, filter is plugged again, and it has about half its power.. im wondering why it is doing this and how to fix it. since im not a dodge man i came here for help... thanks guys

register it as farm use and delete every piece of emmisoin crap on there, then put a 2 micron fuel filter.

problem with that is, we got the 100,000 extended warranty for it.. and the tranny is going out on it so we dont want to void it before the tranny takes a shit:argh:

The problem is that he got an 07.5 which is the first year they came out with the 6.7 and their was a lot of bugs with those motors for the first couple of years. Not everyone that got one had problems. I got a friend that is a service manager at a dealer, that when I went to get a new truck told me to stay away from the 07 and 08s because of this reason.

Do you run farm or offroad fuel through it?

Typically the only thing that will kill multiple injectors like this is bad fuel...a common rail is not a 12 valve, they will not tolerate bad fuel. While the 6.7L had issues, this screams bad fuel at me...

I have to agree it really sounds like bad fuel. Are you filling it from a farm tank?

dmaxkiller 05-09-2012 03:55 PM

im going to have to agree. bad fuel or maybe need to try a different fill up station.. like stated above delete all the emission crap and run a straight pipe or aftermarket muffler and run a 2 micron filter and maybe look into a fass or airdog. just for the extra fuel

sounds like 2 problems. 1 is the emissions stuff. the second problem is bad fuel. the common rail cant stand water. if you are getting fuel from a farm tank use a water block filter and small micron.

its highway fuel, we get it delivered here and have 3 1000 gallon tanks that get refilled every few weeks, so its not old or bad.. we actually have more additives put in it then the gas stations do.. the same fuel runs in all our semis, fords, tractors, combines... well the list goes on but everything we have is diesel besides a denali. the dealer here actually thought at first that it was the fuel but they ruled that out really quick. oh also all the tanks have 2 water block filters on them.. :argh:

so.. thats why im here to see what some real dodge guys think

we see alot of injector failure around here because of guys that have tanks in there beds. i saw a truck today that had this issue. i had to use either to get it fired. the truck had 50k miles on it. my truck has got 123k and knock on wood no problems yet. i get my fuel in a drum at the station and refilter it with a 2 micron filter. i have got water from the fuel station. i also run a 2 micron on my truck.
