torque converter questions

first off, has anyone heard reviews about diamond T torque converters? and second, would i be alright with a new converter with a stall speed of 1400-1500 rpm's without having to worry about breaking input shafts? i have a 03 cummins, edge ez, cold air intake and boost orface. nothing crazy but i dont wanna have to keep dumping money into the trans. i want better mpg's and reliability when i replace the trans. thanks

i have a diamond t and have had no problems out of it. mines only a billet single disk with my bd valve body and it holds with my mods. no slipping or flares, pretty good for the price.

did you get the stock or low stall speed?

i got stock. im pretty impressed with the quality for the price i haul hay and my tractor 3x a week and its holding up great. i no longer have the 2nd to 3rd shutter shift either which was my mine goal.

ya i have something like that too, my converter is locking up when i went into third, then un locking and relocking when it should around 43mph. and i get up to 2400 rpm's comming out of first sometimes. is that what you had?

sometimes, but mine was hunting for gears. it would shutter back and forth between 2nd and 3rd. pretty sure the valve body helped that out because i think mine had a lot to do with not getting enough pressure to the solenoid.

i needed a new tc, my old one was slipping bad. the single disk is rated at like 600 i believe. i dynoed about a year ago at 512 and 906 and like i said its holding up to everything i've thrown at it. if i ever get a new turbo i'lll prolly upgrade to a suncoast triple disk. but with diesel at 4.00 a gallon i dont see that happening anytime soon.

ah i got ya man, that seems to happen to all 48 RE's around 150-200k miles. have you heard anything about breaking imput shafts with a low stall? or you think i'd be aight since im not putting out too much hp

As long as you stay away from the triple disk TC's and lockup controllers a billet input is nice to have not a got to have. A 1400-1500 stall TC is pretty tight unless you remove a lot of the TQ management then you will get smoke trying to get a load rolling. For all around driving 1600-1700 is a much better compromise.

A lot depends on the TC builder and how they do it. Rather than concentrate on stall get the efficency of the fluid coupling at speed up intot he mid 80% range and the stall will take of itself.
