tranny help please

i have a 05 dodge cummins with a 6 speed manual. time for a new clutch looking at south bend and valair but the problem is they are listing two different trannys in 05 one is a G56 and the other is the NV5600 which one do i have and how do i tell the difference

NV-5600 is cast iron. G56 is aluminum. Also reverse on the NV-5600 is up and to the right where reverse in down and to the left on the G56.

I have a 03 RAM 3500, 2WD, 5.9HO, NV5600 M/T I love the truck and I pull a 3 Car wedge trailer with it. I thought I would put in the best clutch I could afford. I got a HD dual disc clutch. I did this in hopes of not having to change the clutch out for awhile. After I put in the HD clutch I have had some other issues that I think were caused by the HD clutch putting a strain on the rest of the system. If I had it to do over I would have stuck with a single disc good quality clutch instead of the HD dual disc. I can't prove that the clutch has caused the problems but after talking with some others I think that was my issues. Once again I pull a lot of weight for many many miles.

I've had the South Bend Con O FE (450hp - 1000 lb-ft) in my truck for 100,000 miles now, tugging trailers from 2,000 to 20,000 lbs. I'm at the upper limits of (or slightly above) it's holding ability but it's still going strong. Smooth engagement and stock pedal feel.

Dual disk clutches have more holding ability but also usually require upgraded hydraulics and many report them to be noisy.

I have a Dual Disk south bend and i agree with dieseldude03, the dual disks are a little bit more noisy, but not a whole lot. but you get used to it
